The Detroit Red Wings<\/a> have signed 2020 4th overall pick<\/a> Lucas Raymond to a three-year entry-level contract starting in the 2021-22 season.<\/p>\n

Lucas Raymond Signs With the Detroit Red Wings<\/h2>\n

This season, Lucas Raymond played 34 games with Frolunda HC of the SHL. In that time, he put up six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. Raymond was drafted fourth overall in the 2020 NHL draft by the Detroit Red Wings. In February, Raymond suffered an arm injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of Frolunda’s season. Despite his injury, he tied for fourth in junior scoring in the SHL behind fellow prospects Albert Johansson and Moritz Seider.<\/p>\n

Last season, he scored 14 points with Frolunda HC J20, 10 points with Frolunda HC, and four points in seven games during the World Junior Championships. With the SHL season coming to a close, Raymond will transition to North American ice to play the remainder of the season out with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Raymond is the Red Wings’ highest draft pick since Keith Primeau<\/a> in 1990.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n

The high-scoring winger will undoubtedly provide a massive benefit for the Red Wings. Barring an impressive outing in the AHL this season, he’ll likely start the 2021-22 season with the Griffins before transferring to NHL ice. Raymond fits a key need on the Red Wings’ top-six. With the departure of Anthony Mantha<\/a>, a need for additional offence has arisen. Raymond will look to fill that role when he’s able to crack the NHL lineup. General manager Steve Yzerman<\/a> and the rest of the Red Wings have looked forward to Raymond’s arrival for a long time. With the signing of this contract, the Lucas Raymond era in Detroit has officially begun.<\/p>\n
