They already added goaltender Devan Dubnyk and defenceman Patrick Nemeth. Now they have brought back Carl Soderberg, who has experience playing in the playoffs with Colorado. Soderberg spent the past four seasons in Colorado before signing with Chicago. During his tenure with the Avalanche, he recorded 151 points (57 goals and 94 assists). During the period of 2015-19, he ranked fifth on the team in points and assists, and fourth in goals. In addition, he ranked first in games played. In 41 career playoff games, he has recorded 12 points (two goals and 10 assists).

This season with the Blackhawks, Sodergerg has played in 34 games recording 15 points (seven goals and eight assists). This was good for sixth on the team in points.

What The Avalanche Get

Colorado gets a familiar face that knows what it takes to win in the playoffs. He is a depth centre who is a great faceoff man. With the Blackhawks, he ranked third on the team in faceoff percentage and faceoffs won. Colorado knows how important faceoffs are during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He might contribute offensively, but Soderberg will get the job in the faceoff circle especially at the most critical of times. In addition, Soderberg can be a solid penalty killer for the Avalanche. Something Colorado was looking to add at the deadline.

Now that the Avalanche have addressed their needs at centre and at the goaltender position, they still have cap space to play with, it will be interesting to see if they acquire another asset or two to get them over the hump once the playoffs start.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Colorado Avalanche are bringing back a familiar face.
