This contract carries him through the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/FriedgeHNIC\/status\/1373670200294395904<\/p>\n<h3>Matt Roy Re-Ups With Kings<\/h3>\n<p>Over his three-year NHL career,\u00a0 Roy has played only for the Los Angeles Kings. He has put up six goals and 25 assists for 31 career points in 119 career games. Los Angeles took him in the seventh round, 194th overall of the 2015 NHL Draft. Roy was a standout player with Michigan Tech of the NCAA.<\/p>\n<p>This season he has seven assists with four penalty minutes in 24 games this season. He has a 49.3 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -0.2. Last season he scored four goals and 14 assists for 18 points i 70 games. He also added 10 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 56.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 4.3<\/p>\n<p>The Detroit native helped lead his alma mater to two NCAA tournament appearances. Roy registered 12 goals and 43 points for 55 points in 115 games over three seasons. He worked his way up from the Kings&#8217; AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign, to earn a spot on the big club.<\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for the Future<\/h2>\n<p>Roy may not put up a lot of offensive numbers, but he is a key cog for the Kings on defence. He is fifth in ice time on the club and third among defencemen behind <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/doughdr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Doughty<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/andermi02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Anderson<\/a><\/strong>.. He has a career-high 19 minutes, 16 seconds of ice time in the current season.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles locks down a good defender that was scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. He earns a significant raise from his $700,000 deal that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/07\/16\/los-angeles-kings-re-sign-matt-roy-amongst-others\/\" target=\"_self\">he signed in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Roy is willing to block shots and throw his body around.
