We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for March 9th, featuring Theo Fleury.

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Theo Fleury Gets Three Shorthanded Goals<\/h3>\n

1991:<\/strong> The Calgary Flames forward sets an NHL record for the most shorthanded goals in a single game. Fleury gets all those man-down goals in an 8-4 road win over the St. Louis Blues.<\/a> Fleury scores his first at 5:52 of the first period with Al MacInnis<\/a><\/span> in the penalty box and then gets his second 24 seconds into the third period.<\/p>\n

He completes his shorthanded hat trick at 17:35 with an unassisted goal. Fleury ends his NHL career with 455 goals and 1,088 points.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1937:<\/strong> New York Rangers<\/a> Frank Boucher<\/a> is the first to get 250 assists in his career. He gets a goal and the record-breaking assist in a 7-5 win over the New York Americans.<\/p>\n

1952:<\/strong> Detroit Red Wings<\/a> centre Sid Abel<\/a> scores his last goal as a member of the team. He’s set up by Production Line linemates Gordie Howe<\/a> and Ted Lindsay<\/a> in a 6-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1975:<\/strong> Boston Bruins<\/a> defenceman Bobby Orr<\/a> sets a record for most goals by a defender with his 38th of the season in a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Flames. Orr finishes with 46 goals en route to breaking his own mark and gets three assists to reach 600 career helpers.<\/p>\n

1980:<\/strong> Gordie Howe joins his sons Mark Howe<\/a> and Marty Howe<\/a> on the same line midway in the Hartford Whalers<\/a> 1-1 tie with the Bruins.<\/p>\n

1999:<\/strong> New Jersey Devils<\/a> goalie Martin Brodeur<\/a> becomes the first goalie to win 30 games in four straight seasons. Brodeur makes 21 saves in a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. He goes on to win at least 30 games in each of his next eight seasons as well.<\/p>\n

2004:<\/strong> Los Angeles Kings<\/a> left winger Luc Robitaille<\/a> becomes the 10th player to net 650 goals after scoring in a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

2006: <\/b>Nicklas Lidstrom<\/a><\/span> passes Borje Salming<\/a><\/span> to become the highest-scoring Swedish defenceman in NHL history. The Detroit defender gets a goal and three assists to get to 789 points in a 7-3 win over the Kings.<\/p>\n

2015: <\/b>Evgeny Romasko is the first referee born in Russia to officiate an NHL game and oversees Detroit’s 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers<\/a>.<\/p>\n
