Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Flames Trade Brett Hull to Blues<\/h3>\n

1988:<\/strong> The Flames send Brett Hull and Steve Bozek<\/a> to the Blues in exchange for Rob Ramage<\/a> and Rick Wamsley<\/a>. Ramage plays a hand in the Flames winning the 1989 Stanley Cup. However, the Blues end up reaping the benefits of the swap.<\/p>\n

Hull goes on to score 527 of his 741 NHL goals with St. Louis and becomes a franchise icon. He wins two Stanley Cups and becomes a Hockey Hall of Famer in 2009 after a long career.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1921:<\/strong> Ottawa Senators forward Cy Denneny<\/a> scores six goals in a 12-5 rout of the Hamilton Tigers. He joins brother Corb Denneny<\/a> as the first siblings to score six in a game.<\/span><\/p>\n

1939:<\/strong> The Boston Bruins win the regular season title after a 3-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings en rout to getting the Cup. It’s the first year of a seven-team, single-division league.<\/p>\n

1951:<\/strong> Scotty Bowman’s playing career ends after a suffers a severe head injury. Bowman goes into coaching and gets 1,244 wins in the regular season, 223 in the playoffs. He also hoists the Stanley Cup nine times as a coach.<\/p>\n

1992:<\/strong> Pittsburgh Penguins forward Kevin Stevens<\/a> becomes the first player to get 100 points and 200 penalty minutes in the same season. Stevens gets an assist in a 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings and finishes with 123 points and 254 penalty minutes.<\/p>\n

1994:<\/strong> Boston’s Cam Neely<\/a> gets two goals to score 50 in 44 games to tie Mario Lemieux<\/a>‘s fastest to 50. The Bruins end up beating the Washington Capitals, 6-3.<\/p>\n

1998:<\/strong> New York Rangers centre Wayne Gretzky<\/a> gets his 1,000th NHL goal (878 in the regular season, 122 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs) in a 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils.<\/p>\n

2016:<\/strong> Florida Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr<\/a> moves into third on the all-time points list past Gordie Howe<\/a>. Jagr gets his 1,613rd points setting up an Aleksander Barkov<\/a> goal in a 5-4 overtime loss to Boston.<\/p>\n

2018:<\/strong> Penguins captain Sidney Crosby<\/a> gets to 1,100 career points in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Crosby has three assists on his way to getting the milestone.<\/p>\n
