Losing him is a significant blow to their blue line. So far this season, Lindholm has played 18 games, scored twice, and dished out four assists, for six points. He’s a minus 1 and has 16 minutes in penalties over those 18 games. His Corsi-For is 50.8 percent, with a relative Corsi of +2.9. Lindholm usually puts up between 25 to 30 points in a normal season, so he’s more or less on pace to match that. Over his eight-year career with the Ducks, Lindholm has played 520 games, with 52 goals and 147 assists (for 199 points) to show for it.

Moving Forward

The Ducks’ defensive core is already shallow, so with Hampus Lindholm injured, it will be difficult to recover. With new addition Kevin Shattenkirk and veteran Cam Fowler headlining the blue line, the Ducks start off strong. Jacob Larsson and Jani Hakanpaa have also played all 23 games. Their third pairing rotates, and Lindholm swings between the second and third pairings. The Ducks already have a problem with defending high danger chances, with their opponents converting on 3.1% more chances than league average. However, their penalty kill is sitting at 80.95 percent, higher than league average. Even so, there have been many times where star goaltender John Gibson has bailed out defenceman and prevented a goal. The Ducks cannot afford to have any more injured with an already shaky blue line. In six weeks from today, they will have played 18 games. In a top-heavy West Division, they will likely miss the playoffs.

Main Photo: DETROIT, MICHIGAN – OCTOBER 08: Hampus Lindholm #47 of the Anaheim Ducks skates against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on October 08, 2019, in Detroit, Michigan.
