Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for February 28th, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Sidney Crosby Wins Gold for Canada<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2010:<\/strong> The Pittsburgh Penguins centre gives the host Canadians the gold medal in Vancouver, British Columbia. Crosby scores past Buffalo Sabres goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/millery01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Miller<\/a> to get Canada a 3-2 overtime win. Canada earns its 14th gold medal, the most by any country at any Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the final event of the Vancouver games and the United States gets its 37th medal, which is the most at any games. The U.S. wins the medals race for the first time since 1932.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1929:<\/strong> The Chicago Blackahwks are shut out for a league-record eighth straight game, but they don&#8217;t come away empty-handed. New York Rangers goalie <span id=\"token-E8843C8BD08A0A695CFAE\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roachjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Ross Roach<\/a><\/span> and Chicago&#8217;s <span id=\"token-6556015F05E730C4F7DBE\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gardich01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charlie Gardiner<\/a> keep the game a scoreless tie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1960:<\/strong> The United States rallies and scores six goals to beat Czechoslovakia, 9-4, in the men&#8217;s hockey gold medal game. Roger Christian scores three times and brother, Bill Christian, assists on two of them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/chrisda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Christian<\/a> follows in his father&#8217;s footsteps and is part of the gold-medal winning Miracle on Ice in 1980.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1963:<\/strong> The Rangers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bathgan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Bathgate<\/a> becomes the first in team history to score 250 goals for the club. Bathgate gets a hat trick in a 6-1 win over the Blackhawks in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><b>1974: <\/b>Boston Bruins defenseman <span id=\"token-B9707EAF3498930B19BB3\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/orrbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Orr<\/a><\/span> is credited with the 499th and 500th assists in just his 522nd career game. Orr reaches the milestone in an 8-1 rout of the Detroit Red Wings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> Winnipeg Jets rookie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/selante01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teemu Selanne<\/a> scores four times to become the third rookie to score 50 goals in a season. The Finn would go on to score a record-breaking 76 goals as he&#8217;d win the Calder Trophy.<\/p>\n<p><b>1999:<\/b> Los Angeles Kings centre <span id=\"token-24A337CA9072CF30969B7\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/ferrara01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ray Ferraro<\/a><\/span> plays in his 1,000th NHL game in a 1-0 loss to the Dallas Stars.
