We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for February 21st, featuring Team Canada winning the women&#8217;s hockey gold medal.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Team Canada Takes Women&#8217;s Hockey Gold in 2002<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> The Canadian women get their first Olympic hockey gold after topping the United States, 3-2. Jayna Hefford got the game-winning goal to help Canada beat the U.S. in front of a partisan crowd in Salt Lake City, Utah.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s win avenges the 1998 loss it suffered to the United States in Nagano, Japan. Both teams have won the gold medal in the seven finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1928:<\/strong> Brothers square off for the first time behind the benches as the Boston Bruins take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cleghsp01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sprague Cleghorn<\/a> fills in for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> behind the Bruins bench while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cleghod01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Odie Cleghorn<\/a> coaches the Pirates in a 2-0 Boston win.<\/p>\n<p>[pickup_prop id=&#8221;4496&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>1946:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/patrile01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lester Patrick<\/a> resigns as New York Rangers general manager due to health reasons. Coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bouchfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank Boucher<\/a> takes over for Patrick, who won three Stanley Cups with the team. However, the Rangers have to wait until 1994 for their next Cup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1970:<\/strong> Chicago Blackhawks forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hullbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Hull<\/a> scores his 500th career goal in a 4-2 win over the Rangers. He becomes the first player to get 50 points or more in 21 straight seasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984:<\/strong> Edmonton Oilers centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a> gets four goals for his 27th career hat trick in a 6-5 win over the St. Louis Blues. r, Gretzky scores four more against the Pittsburgh Penguins to give him eight goals in two nights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> Carolina Hurricanes forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sheppra01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ray Sheppard<\/a> scores twice in a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders. He becomes the first player to score 20 goals with six different teams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2001:<\/strong> The Colorado Avalanche defenceman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bourqra01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ray Bourque<\/a> plays Boston for the first time since the big trade. He gets two assists in an 8-2 rout of the Bruins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2015:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gaborma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marian Gaborik<\/a> helps the Los Angeles Kings beat the San Jose Sharks in a Stadium Series game at Levi&#8217;s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
