Hockey is back! Normally we\u2019d be closing in on the NHL trade deadline for the final push of the season. However, we\u2019re in a different world. Last Word on Hockey is still going to look back at each date\u2019s historical significance<\/a> to the game. We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for February 12th featuring Bill Cowley<\/a>.

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Bill Cowley Becomes All-Time Leading Scorer<\/h3>\n

1947:<\/strong> The Boston Bruins centre gets a goal to become the league’s all-time leading scorer in a 10-1 rout of the New York Rangers<\/a>. Cowley notches his 529th career point to pass the recently retired Syd Howe<\/a> for first place.<\/p>\n

The Bristol, Quebec native retires at the end of the season with 548 career points. He enters the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1968 and was the only player elected in the class that year.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1935:<\/strong> Boston defenceman Eddie Shore<\/a> gets a goal and three assists in a 6-5 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. Shore gets two of those assists in 12 seconds in the non sudden-death overtime period.<\/p>\n

1975: <\/b>The Montreal Canadiens<\/a> extend their NHL-record road undefeated streak to 17 games (10-0, seven ties) in a 2-2 tie with Toronto. Ken Dryden<\/a> makes 43 saves and Larry Robinson<\/a> gets two points.<\/p>\n

1976:<\/strong> The Vancouver Canucks<\/a> finally beat Montreal for the first time since entering the league in 1970. Ron Sedlbauer<\/a><\/span> and Dennis Ververgaert<\/a><\/span> each score twice in a 6-4 win to end an 0-25-5 drought.<\/span><\/p>\n

1985:<\/strong> Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> rookie Mario Lemieux<\/a> is the first rookie to win the All-Star Game MVP award. Lemieux scores twice as the Wales Conference beats the Campbell Conference 6-4 in Calgary. Ray Bourque<\/a><\/span> hands out four assists and sets up each of Lemieux’s goals. Brock Boeser<\/a> becomes the next rookie to win All-Star Game MVP in 2018.<\/p>\n

1995:<\/strong> Detroit Red Wings<\/a> forward Sergei Fedorov<\/a> scores all four goals in a 4-4 tie with the Los Angeles Kings<\/a>. Fedorov misses a penalty shot in overtime that would have sealed the win for Detroit.<\/p>\n

2003: <\/b>The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a> get an NHL record with their 10th consecutive one-goal victory. Mike Leclerc<\/a><\/span> scores 10 seconds into OT for a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames<\/a> to break the Ottawa Senators record in 1926-27.<\/span><\/p>\n

2019:<\/strong> St. Louis Blues<\/a> goalie Jordan Binnington<\/a> stops 20 shots in an 8-3 win over the New Jersey Devils<\/a>. The Blues move to 10-1-1 since Binnington’s first start and his sixth straight win.<\/p>\n
