Hockey is back! Normally we\u2019d be closing in on the NHL trade deadline for the final push of the season. However, we\u2019re in a different world. Last Word on Hockey is still going to look back at each date\u2019s historical significance<\/a> to the game. We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for February 10th featuring Denis Savard<\/a>.

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Denis Savard Nets 400th Goal<\/h3>\n

1990:<\/strong> The Montreal Canadiens<\/a> forward nets his 400th career goal in an 8-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks<\/a>. Savard reaches 400 in style with a hat trick, which was the only one with the Habs.<\/p>\n

The Montreal native finishes his career with 473 career goals before retiring after the 1996-97 season. He enters the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000 after a standout career with the Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>, Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1924:<\/strong> The Boston Bruins<\/a> are voted into the league to start play in the 1924-25 season. Boston wins its first game with a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Maroons on Dec. 1.<\/p>\n

1942:<\/strong> The Bruins Kraut Line of Milt Schmidt<\/a><\/span>, Bobby Bauer<\/a><\/span> and Woody Dumart<\/a><\/span> combines for 11 points in an 8-1 win over the Canadiens. All three players are given a standing ovation in their last game before they depart for the Royal Canadian Air Force.<\/p>\n

1960: <\/b>The Detroit Red Wings<\/a> trade star defenceman Red Kelly<\/a><\/span> to the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> for defenceman Marc Reaume<\/a><\/span>. Kelly had refused to report to the New York Rangers<\/a> after being dealt three days earlier, but the defender gets the last laugh. He is a part of four Stanley Cup winners with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the decade.<\/p>\n

1972:<\/strong> Montreal forward Guy Lafleur<\/a> is the first rookie to get three hat tricks in his first season in the modern era. Frank Mahovlich<\/a> assists on all three goals in a 7-1 victory over Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n

1983: <\/b>The Minnesota North Stars<\/a> and Rangers combine to set an NHL record for the fastest three goals<\/span>. New York’s Mark Pavelich<\/a><\/span> scores at 19:18 of the second period and Ron Greschner<\/a><\/span> gets a goal nine seconds later. Minnesota’s Willi Plett<\/a> tallies six seconds later in its 7-5 win.<\/span><\/p>\n

1993: <\/b>The Calgary Flames<\/a> get a few NHL records in a 13-1 victory<\/span> against the San Jose Sharks<\/a>. Gary Suter<\/a><\/span>, Chris Lindberg<\/a><\/span> and Ronnie Stern<\/span> connect in the first 53 seconds of the third to start the period. Goalie Jeff Reese<\/a> gets a record three assists.<\/p>\n

2003:<\/strong> Detroit’s Brett Hull<\/a> scores his 700th goal in a 5-4 win over San Jose.<\/p>\n
