Each day, the Last Word on Hockey team will break down every game and give our NHL predictions for each game. Be sure to check out the early NHL predictions, as this is the late edition of the NHL Predictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">NHL Predictions<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vancouver Canucks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Canucks 0-2 Leafs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The second and final North Division matchup tonight brings us the end of three straight between the two. In the third meeting between the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Toronto+Maple+Leafs\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Vancouver+Canucks\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vancouver Canucks<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the Leafs lead the season series. Toronto has outscored Vancouver 12-4 in just two of the meetings. Each team has scored only one power-play goal in each game. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/matthau01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Auston Matthews<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> leads the league with 10 goals and has Vancouver&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boesebr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Boeser<\/a> chasing him down with just one goal behind. It will be fun to see what player comes out tonight on top between the two.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/simmowa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Simmonds<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0suffered a\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/02\/07\/toronto-maple-leafs-lose-wayne-simmonds-for-extended-period\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hand injury<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in his last game and will be out of the lineup. Simmonds had five goals in six games, which was his first scoring streak since October of 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Unfortunately for Vancouver, it doesn&#8217;t matter who they put in between the pipes tonight. Toronto has a highly skilled offence that is much more mature and too strong when matched up next to Vancouver&#8217;s. Another area where Leafs add another tick to the column is in the defence category. The Leafs win tonight and, they sweep this month&#8217;s series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prediction: Maple Leafs win 4-3<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>[pickup_prop id=&#8221;3650&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Nashville Predators<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Lightning 2-0 Predators<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=tampa+bay+lightning\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0head into tonight, they seek to extend their winning streak to five. In their previous back to back games, Tampa Bay won both versus\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Nashville+Predators\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nashville Predators<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The defending Champions lead the season series so far, with Tampa Bay outscoring Nashville 9-5.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stamkst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steven Stamkos<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pointbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brayden Point<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0lead all forwards on the team with four goals and six assists each. If the Lightning&#8217;s performance doesn&#8217;t have you convinced, they head into this bout with a record of 7-1-1 and lead the league in fewest goals against with 18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On the other side, team point leader\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/forsbfi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filip Forsberg<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has six goals and five assists. The Nashville Predators will be missing forward\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuninlu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Kunin<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, who started the season with a goal in each of the team&#8217;s first two games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In Nashville&#8217;s most recent game, they would win the race to get on the scoreboard first. Unfortunately, they would be unable to take control of the game, allowing two third-period goals. The decision would favour the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Florida+Panthers\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Florida Panthers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a02-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nashville&#8217;s goaltender\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rinnepe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pekka Rinne<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0would stop 34 out of 36 shots and finish strong with an exceptional game played. If a strong goaltending performance from Rinne is in the cards for tonight, Nashville could squeeze out a win.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prediction: Lightning win 3-2\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Arizona Coyotes vs. St. Louis Blues<\/h3>\n<h4>Head-to-Head: Coyotes 2 &#8211; 1 Blues<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_self\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a> are back at .500 after back-to-back wins against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>. It&#8217;s important to get some points without captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/ekmanol01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oliver Ekman-Larsson<\/a> in the lineup as they fight for playoff positioning in the West Division. The Coyotes have boasted some passable underlying numbers this year, flaunting a 50.5 Corsi for percentage at even strength. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlaco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conor Garland<\/a> is continuing his breakout campaign, leading his squad with 12 points in 11 games. Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuempda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darcy Kuemper<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/raantan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antti Raanta<\/a> continue to form one of the more solid goaltending tandems in the league, and Arizona looks like they could still be a threat to make the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues are not a team that easily forgives, however, and they&#8217;ll be motivated to get back into the W column tonight. They&#8217;ll do it without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomaro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Thomas<\/a>, though, as he may be out long-term with a hand injury. Their Corsi on the year sits exactly even at 50 percent, as the team looks to improve on both sides of the puck after a mediocre 7-4-1 start. Rookie sensation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kyroujo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Kyrou<\/a> continues at a point-per-game pace, and he&#8217;s quickly become a critical source of offence for this team. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/binnijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Binnington<\/a> continues his above-average play in goal with a .915 save percentage. They&#8217;re a good bounce-back candidate tonight after a couple of games.<\/p>\n<p><em>Prediction: Blues win 5-2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That does it for the February 8th late games set of NHL Predictions!
