Danton Heinen Re-Signs

Danton Heinen has a new contract. Pittsburgh Penguins winger Danton Heinen has re-signed with the Penguins. The RFA who had found his mojo in the black and gold has signed a new deal. Danton Heinen’s deal is now making $1 million dollars after signing with his team for one year.

Pittsburgh Penguins Winger Staying Put

Danton Heinen was drafted in 2014 by the Boston Bruins. He had a killer rookie season in 2017-18 by notching 16 goals, 31 assists, and 47 points. At one point in time, it seemed as though he and Jake DeBrusk would form the youthful movement in Boston. That plan changed as he moved to the Anaheim Ducks for Nick Ritchie.

Things did not go as planned in Anaheim and the forward marched on to Pittsburgh. The winger caught fire with Pittsburgh. In what was his best season since his days in Boston, the winger scored 18 goals, 15 assists, and 33 points, which ranked 9th on the team. Heinen spent most of the season alongside Kasperi Kapanen and Evgeni Malkin. It was one of the more productive lines for the Penguins. As a line, they had an expected goals percentage of 55.7% and an expected goals for per 60 minutes at 2.82. His 18 goals would be a career-high for himself. In seven games this postseason, he posted three goals for himself.

Even though the winger has been on the move in his short career, he is a valuable player. Although he is not the biggest guy on the ice he is an effective player. Danton Heinen plays with speed and is good on the walls. He has offensive upside and can play anywhere in the lineup. In 348 career games, he has 62 goals, 92 assists, and 154 points.

What The Contract Means To Danton Heinen

Danton Heinen secured a new contract after his stellar play. The RFA decided to remain in Pittsburgh after having one of his best years. While the deal is only for one year Heinen is hoping his chemistry with Malkin and Kapanen will continue and his strong play will continue. If he can put another strong season together he may be able to secure a more lucrative contract.

How He Can Help The Team

Danton Heinen earned himself the new deal. He has speed and a scoring touch and can play in any situation. He can slot anywhere in the lineup and can contribute on the power play. His best season with the man advantage was in 2017-18 when he scored two power-play goals and had ten assists. If given the opportunity, he can succeed and contribute in that aspect.
