Alex Goligoski Joins the Minnesota Wild

Goligoski joins four other fellow blueliners on the Coyotes squad who have their contracts ending. It will be interesting to see how the defence changes depending on which players re-sign and which don’t. For Goligoski, his best season in Arizona was first, 2016-17. That’s when he gathered six goals and 30 assists while playing all 82 games. He is a versatile player who can play the right side or left even though he is a left-hand shot. His work on the power play and distributing the puck are definite assets for this new team.

Nicknamed “Goose”, he is still playing a strong game even at his age. He can certainly help young players as a mentor to their game when he joins his new team the Minnesota Wild.

What Goligoski Can Add to His New Team

Anytime a puck moving defenceman is available teams want to add them to their rosters. Goligoski is no stranger to starting plays in his own zone. He’s adept at hitting streaking forwards with passes into the offensive zone. He will certainly be a player who can drive the offence for his new team. He’s not afraid to block shots as he has demonstrated by over 1,500 blocks to his credit during his 14-year NHL career.

The Minnesota Wild have themselves a consummate professional who comes to the rink every game with one thing in mind… winning.

When the Arizona Coyotes signed then free agent Alex Goligoski in June of 2016, they were excited to be able to attract a veteran defenceman. He is a workhorse who logs more than 22 minutes of ice time a game. His contract was expiring at the end of the 2020-21 season. He signed a five-year $27.375 million deal to play in the desert.
