Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion confirmed today that 20-year-old forward Colin White will be out for six to eight weeks with a broken wrist. White made his NHL debut last season, and played in two games in total.
Colin White Out 6-8 Weeks with Broken Wrist
White suffered the broken wrist in the first preseason game for the Senators on Monday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. White went down to one knee to block a shot late in the third period and took a slap shot off his left wrist. He immediately skated off the ice and went into the locker room.

In quick fashion, White has already undergone surgery to repair the wrist. This is bad luck for White, who was looking to challenge for a spot on the Senators roster for opening night.
White, 20, has only played in two regular season games in his very short career so far. Along with that, the Senators gave him a shot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, with White playing in a single game.
A product of the U.S. National Development team, White spent time playing in the NCAA before being drafted. He committed to Boston College, where he played two seasons before being taken 21st overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
During his time in Boston he played in 72 games over two seasons. During that time he scored 35 goals, 19 in his freshman season, and added 41 assists to his tally. He is widely regarded as a promising prospect for the Sens, and could develop into a very good two-way centerman.
According to Top Shelf Prospects, White is currently the second best prospect in the Senators pool. Ben Kerr says of White, “White comes to camp looking for a spot in the Senators top nine. With little changes amongst the Senators forward group, he will need to earn that spot with a strong training camp. Expect him to be given every opportunity to do so. Even if sent to the AHL, expect to see White get some games as an injury fill-in. He should be a full-time NHL player very soon.”
