Unrestricted free agent forward Daniel Winnik has signed a professional try-out contract with the Minnesota Wild. He will look to make the team in training camp. Winnik has spent the last season and a half with the Washington Capitals.

Daniel Winnik Signs PTO With the Minnesota Wild
Winnik, 32, scored 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points in 72 games. He did not put up a point in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games. In fact, over his two years with the Capitals he did not score a point in 25 playoff games.
Winnik recently finished the second year a two-year deal worth $4.5 million ($2.25 million cap hit). He signed the deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the summer of 2015, but was traded to the Capitals at the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline.
The native of Toronto, Ontario, has had a ten year NHL career, so far. In addition to the Leafs and Capitals, he has also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, and the Arizona (then Phoenix) Coyotes. In 717 career National Hockey League games, Winnik has scored 76 goals and 152 assists for 228 career points. He has added just three assists in 58 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Winnik is a grinder, who can provide two-way play in the bottom six. He is also likely to be a valuable penalty killer if he makes his new club, and get plenty of defensive zone starts against other team’s best lines. He has the versatility to play both centre and wing.
