The San Jose Sharks placed Marc-Edouard Vlasic on injured reserve Monday afternoon. He took a puck to the face in Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
San Jose Sharks Place Marc-Edouard Vlasic on IR
With just over 30 seconds left in the third period, Shayne Gostisbehere took a slapshot from the blue line, that hit the side of Vlasic’s face.
The Sharks didn’t release the exact details of Vlasic’s injury. He didn’t play on Saturday, and will miss the next two games with the injury.
Vlasic hasn’t been as productive as he is normally, but is still important in the Sharks lineup. He averages 21 minutes of ice time a game, playing on the second defense pairing with Justin Braun; but in 35 games he only has nine points.
Mueller Called Up
Mirco Mueller has been called up due to Vlasic’s injury. He will be paired with Dylan DeMelo on the third pairing. Mueller’s been playing on the top pairing in the Sharks AHL system, and has eight points in 25 AHL games this season. In his two-year career, he’s played in a total of 50 NHL games, and he has four points in those games.
Mueller isn’t going to amount to much more than an injury replacement during this. Vlasic should be back within a few games, and Mueller will be sent back down.
Subban on IR
In other news, Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban has officially been placed on injured reserve by the team. The star player is rumoured to need surgery on a herniated disk, and it’s not sure how long he’ll be out.
