Red Wings vs. Hurricanes Postponed due to Carolina Ice Issues

UPDATE: Game has between Detroit and Carolina has been postponed per Ken Holland and confirmed by both teams due to the ice issues in Carolina. The decision was made after determining that there wasn’t sufficient time to complete the game given Detroit having to play in Tampa Bay at 7:30 tomorrow evening. At this time, no make up date has been announced. This is the first game this season to be postponed. Carolina’s next game is Thursday, December 22nd in Buffalo against the Sabres. This was to be the first game of 10-of-11 on the road for Detroit. They will instead start their road trip in Tampa Bay tomorrow night and then head to Sunrise, Florida to take on the Panthers Friday night.

Red Wings vs. Hurricanes Postponed due to Carolina Ice Issues

Puck drop for tonight’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes was scheduled for just after 7 PM eastern time. Ice issues in Carolina have caused the start to be delayed.

There is question to whether or not the game will be able to be played tonight. The NHL has a rule that says a game cannot start with less than 22 hours before the start time of another game. This comes into play as the Red Wings play Tuesday night at Tampa Bay. The NHL reached out to Fox Sports Detroit and said that the stipulation isn’t a “hard and fast rule” so there is hope to get the game in tonight. If the game is played, it will make for short rest before suiting back up in Florida tomorrow night to face the Atlantic Division foe Tampa Bay Lightning.

Both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings will now both have been off since Saturday. This should help tilt the ice back in favor of Detroit as they have struggled against Tampa Bay since John Cooper took over the Lightning.
