This breaks a streak of 78 made cuts in a row on the PGA Tour dating back to the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.@SchefflerFans | @NUCLRGOLFSTATS pic.twitter.com/HFXLEjMVaq

— NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) July 10, 2026

How Strong Start Turned Into a Difficult Friday For Scheffler

Scheffler opened the tournament with a two-under-par 68, leaving himself just three shots behind the leader after the first round.

However, Friday was much tougher for the 30-year-old. He made three bogeys and only one birdie across his opening nine holes before adding another birdie at the 10th. He failed to build on that momentum, and after playing the next seven holes in level par, he reached the par-3 18th, his final hole of the day, needing a birdie to have any chance of making the cut.

His approach finished just short of the green, and his chip for birdie missed the hole. He settled for a bogey and signed for a two-over-par 72, ending his tournament. Earlier in the round, Scheffler showed his frustration after finding a pot bunker at the 17th.

Scottie Scheffler speaks after missing his first cut since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship 🗣️ pic.twitter.com/A35qLzj8q3

— Sky Sports Golf (@SkySportsGolf) July 10, 2026

Speaking after the round, Scheffler admitted he never gave himself enough scoring opportunities. “I got off to a tough start, and then, you know, on the back nine, I just felt like I wasn’t hitting it close enough to give myself enough opportunities,” Scheffler said. “I got off to a poor start.”

Scheffler’s Incredible Run Comes to an End

Scheffler’s streak of 78 straight made cuts was the longest active run on the PGA Tour. His worst finish during that stretch was a tie for 44th at the CJ Cup in South Carolina, only a few events after the streak began.

ALSO READ: 2026 British Open: Why Scottie Scheffler at +550 Is Not a Slam Dunk

Matt Fitzpatrick now owns the longest active streak with 28 consecutive made cuts, while Hideki Matsuyama follows with 27.

Earlier this season, Xander Schauffele also saw his impressive run end after making 72 straight cuts before missing the weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Although both players produced remarkable streaks, they remain well behind Tiger Woods’ record of 142 consecutive made cuts. Woods set that mark between 1998 and 2005, winning 36 tournaments and eight major championships during that remarkable run.

Scheffler’s early exit came as a surprise given his recent form. He played in the final group at last month’s U.S. Open and finished runner-up after losing in a playoff at the Travelers Championship two weeks later.

Despite missing the cut in Scotland, he will now turn his attention to Royal Birkdale, where he will be hoping to defend his Open Championship title and become the first player since Pádraig Harrington in 2008 and 2009 to win The Open in consecutive years.

Main Photo Credit: © John Dufour-Imagn Images

Scottie Scheffler’s remarkable made-cut streak came to an end on Friday after he missed the weekend at the Genesis Scottish Open.
