Wyndham Clark has revealed the reasons behind the putting change that helped him raise his game. The American said he learned an important lesson after winning the U.S. Open<\/a> at Los Angeles Country Club in 2023 and used that experience to prepare better for the weeks that followed his recent victory.<\/p>\n

Instead of pushing himself too hard, Clark focused on managing his energy. He arrived on Wednesday, skipped the pro-am, completed his media duties, and planned to practice for two hours.<\/p>\n

That plan changed quickly as Clark felt too tired and decided to stop after only 30 minutes on the course.<\/p>\n

Wyndham Clark Reveals How He Listened to Trust His Body<\/h3>\n

“I got there and I did about 30 minutes and said, I’m too tired,” Clark said<\/a>. “Let’s go back. I’m back in my arena. Let’s go. When you start making putts, it makes everything a lot easier.”<\/p>\n

Clark rested for the rest of the day. He returned early the next morning and eased himself back into tournament mode. He admitted the opening round took extra focus, but he felt better as the week went on.<\/p>\n

He also said he handled life after a major win much better this time. The attention and extra responsibilities that followed his first U.S. Open title in 2023 taught him what to expect.<\/p>\n

Clark wanted to celebrate his latest victory<\/a>, but he also wanted to keep playing. His switch to the Ping Scottsdale DS72 C putter also gave him more confidence on the greens. It helped him turn his strong driving and iron play into lower scores.<\/p>\n

Recent Victory Boosted Clark’s Belief<\/h3>\n

The 32-year-old carried that confidence to TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship just one week after his recent victory. He stayed in contention throughout the week and finished tied for fifth at 18 under, only three shots behind the playoff between Scottie Scheffler and eventual champion Viktor Hovland.<\/a><\/p>\n

Before his strong finish at the Travelers Championship, Clark won the U.S. Open title at Shinnecock Hills. He stayed in control throughout the week and closed with a final-round 73 to finish at four under par. He beat Sam Burns by one shot.<\/p>\n

The victory made Clark the 24th player to win multiple U.S. Open titles. He also became just the ninth player to lead from the first round to the final round, and the first to do so since Martin Kaymer in 2014.<\/p>\n

Clark now has two major titles and one top-five finish, which remains his only other top-20 finish in a major championship.<\/p>\n
