Early on in this PGA Tour season the sport saw a multitude of changes within personal caddies. Some changes were for personal reasons, and others involved outside variables. In recent news star Cameron Smith, took over headlines at the PGA<\/a> Championship confirming his caddie change. With his now long-time golf coach on the outside looking in, Smith will attempt to\u00a0 perform well in hopes for a tournament win. In the last six major championship appearances for the Aussie, he has missed the cut. He will be one of 11 LIV golf players in the field of play, eager to separate himself within the leader-boards quickly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Smith Ready For Change\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ahead of the second major championship this year, the veteran will be without a longtime coach since the age of nine. Change of a personal caddie can be difficult to navigate, now Smith will have to find his way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I was pretty devastated,” Smith said.<\/a> “I feel like I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the last year and a half and I\u2019ve just got absolutely nothing out of my game, so it\u2019s just time for a change.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In only one Tour event<\/a> played thus far being the Masters, it resulted in yet another cut. A change was yet inevitable, but was not expected to be seen in releasing Grant Field. He has now teamed up with Claude Harmon III, son of legendary Butch Harmon who helped Tiger Woods in his time. The change has yet to be seen as a positive or negative, yet it\u2019s one that has potential nonetheless.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s starting to feel good and starting to feel like I can actually commit to some shots and hit some different shots, so it\u2019s coming along nicely. Claude spends a lot of time out on LIV with DJ. He\u2019s obviously got a wonderful reputation.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Time For Better Performance\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Smith is on a consecutive cut streak in Tour appearances, the PGA Championship is a huge opportunity. The chance at getting some momentum headed back to LIV is one thing, but also Tour redemption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I can promise you, the fire is in the belly, it’s just a matter of time,\u201d Smith said.<\/a> \u201cI don’t think time is running out on my major career by any means.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After making the headlines early on this week with his personal change, he can yet again with a strong performance. It will be an uphill battle to survive the cut into the weekend, but Smith has shown he\u2019s more than capable. Splitting ways with his longtime coach was a hard decision, but one he\u2019s strong minded in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’ve been seeing Grant since I was like nine years old, and he’s a really good friend as well so it was tough, but I feel like I’ve done the right thing for my golf. I think what I’ve done is right.”<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The Aussie will be in competition at the PGA Championship starting May 14th, and looking for another shot at victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
