{"id":438144,"date":"2026-05-05T00:58:44","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=438144"},"modified":"2026-05-05T00:58:44","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:58:44","slug":"scottie-scheffler-and-collin-morikawa-skipping-truist-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/scottie-scheffler-and-collin-morikawa-skipping-truist-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa Skipping Truist Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Truist Championship up next on the PGA Tour\u2019s schedule, the field is taking shape.\u00a0 Rory McIlroy will be attending this signature event and is the favorite to win the tournament.\u00a0 In fact, most of the top players are on the ticket for this weekend.\u00a0 However, there will be a few absences for the tournament, including Collin Morikawa and the world no. 1, Scottie Scheffler.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Scheffler Won\u2019t Attend<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Scottie Scheffler, his absence is for preparation.\u00a0 The event following the Truist Championship is a major.\u00a0 The PGA Championship, to be exact, and currently, Scheffler is the reigning champion.\u00a0 He wants to defend that title next week and wants to be in optimal condition to do so.\u00a0 This tends to be the <\/span>case with events surrounding the majors.\u00a0 Players who already secured their position in the majors want to be in the best condition going in.\u00a0 Sheffler even did this right before the Masters,<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/scottie-scheffler-withdrawl-houston-open\/\" target=\"_self\"> on top of caring for a newborn<\/a>.\u00a0 This has also given McIlroy a better shot at the Truist Championship.\u00a0 Still riding high from his <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/the-masters-rory-mcllroy-back-to-back\/\" target=\"_self\">victory at the 2026 Masters<\/a>, McIlroy is bringing some winning energy to the signature event.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collin Morikawa Absent From The Truist<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Collin Morikawa, his absence has not been given a reason at the time of writing.\u00a0 However, speculation is pinning it on more practical reasons of the medical variety.\u00a0 Scheffler is sitting this one out for preparation, while Morikawa <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/collin-morikawa-reveals-exact-moment-his-back-went-at-the-players-championship\/\" target=\"_self\">has to worry about his back<\/a>.\u00a0 Since he injured his back during the Players Championship, Morikawa has been taking an experimental approach to see how well he can play.\u00a0 Although he admitted that it\u2019s not the best method<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/video\/competition\/6393435443112\/collin-morikawa-gives-update-on-back-injury-after-top-performance-at-rbc-heritage-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> during the RBC Heritage.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s not really the place to be testing, middle of a tournament, or any day out here for me, especially with where I\u2019m at,&#8221; Morikawa continued. &#8220;But when I\u2019m at home next week, I\u2019ll be able to see how comfortable can I really get, and hopefully we can just get back to normal in a short period of time. It\u2019s been a grind.
