{"id":438124,"date":"2026-04-25T19:15:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T19:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=438124"},"modified":"2026-04-25T19:15:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T19:15:23","slug":"greg-norman-believes-liv-golf-could-be-saved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/greg-norman-believes-liv-golf-could-be-saved\/","title":{"rendered":"Greg Norman Believes LIV Golf Could Be Saved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the PIF<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/liv-golf-seeing-the-end\/\" target=\"_self\"> withdrew its backing for LIV Golf.<\/a>\u00a0 A result of this decision is that now everyone is speculating on what will happen with the league without its primary source of income.\u00a0 It is funded through the season, but beyond that, the league&#8217;s future is up in the air.\u00a0 Greg Norman, however, is brainstorming some ideas on how to keep his old league alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greg Norman On LIV<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIV Golf is the brainchild of Greg Norman.\u00a0 He has been trying to get a world tour league off the ground for decades before he found a backer in the Saudi PIF.\u00a0 Norman was even the CEO until last year when Scott O\u2019Neil took over his old position.\u00a0 Norman fully acknowledges that LIV\u2019s next step is fully in the hands of O\u2019Neil, but he still has some ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going on the DanOnGolf show for an interview and revealed a lot about his vision.\u00a0 Norman wanted the league to work with the PGA Tour and not against it.\u00a0 He wanted to do this by propping up some of the lesser events.\u00a0 In fact, this was the plan for the US LIV events.\u00a0 Instead of them being unique to LIV Golf, they were to be a joint effort with the PGA.\u00a0 That plan never came into fruition as the PGA has been hostile towards LIV due to its ties to the Saudi government and all the controversy that comes with that.\u00a0 Norman does believe that cooperation with the PGA can help LIV survive, but he isn\u2019t holding out hope for that.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Norman Thinks Should Be Done<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greg Norman did share what he thinks needs to happen for the league&#8217;s survival.<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TalL60j9v88\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0 He told Rapaport<\/a> the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I read his comments (Scott O\u2019Neil) on we&#8217;ve got to go raise money ourselves, LIV has to do that.\u00a0 Basically, he&#8217;s got to get out there on the street now, and he&#8217;s got to do a roadshow, and he&#8217;s got to see if he can dilute some of the PIF funding down to somewhere else.\u00a0 Getting a US financial institution coming in would be very advantageous, no different to what&#8217;s happened with SSG and the PGA Tour.
