The 2026 PGA Tour season has been one for the books thus far to say the least, with headlines and tournament wins seen all over. This week of play was second to none, with the hosting of the Masters Tournament with a field of the best in the sport. With the 2025 green jacket<\/a> winner in Rory McIlroy making his appearance, history was made as he ended Sunday the fourth ever to win back-to-back. It came down to a nail biter in the final round, as he left the door open for Cameron Young and lost the lead multiple times throughout the weekend. In a sport where many consider Scottie Scheffler the undeniable best, Mcllroy left it up in the air after this performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

History Has Been Made\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Since gaining his Tour card in 2010, the stud from Ireland has inked his name into forever history within the PGA. Leaving those in awe with his first two rounds of play, the weekend let it be known how much Mcllroy wanted a win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI just can\u2019t believe I waited 17 years to get one green jacket, and I get two in a row,\u201d McIlroy said.<\/a> \u201cI think all of my perseverance at this golf tournament over the years has really started to pay off.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The perseverance paid off and then some, now joining names like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo. Having to constantly battle for position in first place and put himself a few shots ahead, showcased the true atmosphere of a major.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shooting a final – round 71 to finish at 12 under par is textbook, and one stroke better than World No 1. Scottie Scheffler. The back nine is where things got both nerve wracking and historic for Mcllroy and company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next For Mcllroy?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a fulfilled career for the 36-year-old, you may now ask what\u2019s next<\/a> after already securing a grand slam in 2025. For starters, McIlroy can cross consecutive Masters wins off his list, and now divert into that personal want of being the greatest European golfer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt took me ten years to win my fifth major and now my sixth has come pretty soon after,\u201d Mcllroy said.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019m not putting any numbers on it but I\u2019m definitely not going to stop here.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not shying away from the discussions on being arguably the greatest European to play, and now performing up to the level of one who should. This week has been a storybook for Mcllroy while earning the respect of those one put away from changing this story.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s obviously a great player,\u2019\u2019 Young said.<\/a> \u201cI watched him play three rounds this week. There is plenty to learn from him. At the same time, I would like to look back on this week more in the sense that I played great \u2014 well enough to win \u2014 and it just didn\u2019t quite fall my way this time.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

After taking some time off in preparation for this tournament, it will be interesting to see when McIlroy will find himself in another lineup this season.<\/span><\/p>\n
