Late last summer, Brian Rolapp began making plans for his idea for the future of the PGA Tour.\u00a0 With the help of Tiger Woods, the PGA\u2019s Future Competitions Committee (FCC) was founded.\u00a0 With the input of players, the committee is aiming to change the league in a way that would be good for everyone.\u00a0 Now, Rolapp has given an update on the progress that the committee has made.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some Concern About Brian Rolapp\u2019s Plans<\/span><\/h2>\n

The work of the FCC in the PGA has caused some stir.\u00a0 Mainly because of the idea of scarcity in the schedule.\u00a0 This has caused some concern that events like the Sentry may be on the chopping block for future seasons.\u00a0 There have been a lot of questions regarding the planned changes.\u00a0 Questions like what will change in the system, what will happen to the events<\/a>, and how this will affect the players.\u00a0 This week, Brian Rolapp\u2019s update aims to answer some questions to hold fans over until the next big update.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rolapp\u2019s Six Points<\/span><\/h2>\n

In an open letter to fans<\/a>, Rolapp has outlined six main points of change that the FCC is looking to make.\u00a0 Rolapp has stated that he wants to build \u201cthe best version of the PGA Tour.\u201d\u00a0 In that letter, he outlined the following points.<\/span><\/p>\n

Season Structure:\u00a0 The idea is to keep the number of events between 21 and 26 throughout the season.\u00a0 This number includes the majors and signature events.\u00a0 This comes with the idea of doubling the number of signature events, making it the majority of the season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Consistent Fields:\u00a0 The committee is talking about moving away from smaller fields and the no-cut events, as well as keeping the field size around 120 players with a cut.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Open Big:\u00a0 The idea is to make the seasonal start a big televised event, at big venues.\u00a0 Essentially, rolling out the red carpet in January.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Major Markets:\u00a0 Rolapp wants to focus the events in bigger areas with larger populations.\u00a0 Think cities like New York, Chicago, and LA.\u00a0 This is also a point of criticism,<\/a> as some of the event venues have been in lesser-known areas and have brought a lot of revenue to those communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Promotion and Relegation: At this point, the idea of a two-track system is being proposed.\u00a0 One track is more for the pros and houses the bigger events.\u00a0 It is also meant to lean more on the merit-based system that the sport has.\u00a0 Rolapp gave the following statement for clarity<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cFor our members, the message is simple,\u201d Rolapp said. \u201cPlay well, and you earn the opportunity to compete in our biggest events \u2013 and for more money.\u201d<\/li>\n
  6. \u00a0Enhanced Postseason:\u00a0 Rolapp stated that the committee is looking at ways to \u201cadd even more drama to the postseason.\u201d\u00a0 What does this mean?\u00a0 Rolapp offers an example of integrating match play as the season concludes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    More Updates To Come<\/span><\/h2>\n

    There are still some questions this update raises, such as with the two-track system.\u00a0 There is an update planned for this coming June.\u00a0 It should clarify some of the key points.\u00a0 As for when they\u2019ll be implemented, there is no set time for it, but there is an idea.\u00a0 The idea at the time of writing is for the changes to be slowly introduced in 2027, and for them to be fully in place for the 2028 season.\u00a0 There are still a lot of questions unanswered, but most importantly, what will the players and fans think of this new plan?<\/span><\/p>\n
