{"id":437763,"date":"2026-03-11T19:18:44","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T19:18:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=437763"},"modified":"2026-03-11T19:18:44","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T19:18:44","slug":"pga-tour-sees-criticism-for-schedule-changes-being-proposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/pga-tour-sees-criticism-for-schedule-changes-being-proposed\/","title":{"rendered":"PGA Tour Sees Criticism For Schedule Changes Being Proposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of his initiative to revitalize the PGA Tour, Brian Rolapp wa<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/brian-rolapp-hints-at-schedule-changes-in-the-coming-future\/\" target=\"_self\">s making plans for big changes<\/a>.\u00a0 The biggest one is the change to the schedule.\u00a0 The plan is to condense the regular season to be a more summer-focused sport.\u00a0 This way, fans won\u2019t have to choose between watching a PGA event or a football game.\u00a0 However, this move is garnering some criticism for how some events would need to be dropped.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PGA Tour Champions Asking Why?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the major criticisms is how the schedule just hasn\u2019t been changed like that in decades.\u00a0 The most that has happened is that events have been shifted around the schedule.\u00a0 The typical regular season has yet to fail the PGA.\u00a0 Viewership-wise, the PGA <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/brandel-chamblee-liv-golf-viewership\/\" target=\"_self\">has fairly good numbers,<\/a> often in the millions of views.\u00a0 Mac Barnhardt expressed this concern with his own statement.\u00a0 Saying that scarcity is the worst thing a league can do to its schedule, saying that when it happens, there is something to worry about.\u00a0 He goes on to say that he doesn\u2019t understand it because the Tours model has not failed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Affect On Communities<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another aspect of seeing events cut is how it will affect the communities that they are hosted in.\u00a0 A big part of a PGA Tour event is the money it brings to the area.\u00a0 The Hawaii events see that money go into local charities, which is why it was a big deal that the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/the-sentry-is-cancelled-for-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">Sentry was cancelled.<\/a>\u00a0 After the LA wildfires forced the Genesis to relocate, the players all encouraged fans to donate to the relief efforts.\u00a0 They also made a challenge out of the money that they would personally donate during the Genesis.\u00a0 Former pro Peter Jacobsen expressed his concern about the communities by stating that they always played a bit part in each event.\u00a0 The Tour has always been part of the local charitable efforts, and cutting events could hurt them.\u00a0 Jacobsen goes on to say in an<a  href=\"https:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/pga\/2026\/03\/10\/pga-tour-brian-rolapp-scarcity-philosophy-for-future-faces-scrutiny-brian-rolapp\/89078602007\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> interview with Golfweek<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI get scared when I hear people saying cutting events. When you look at the individual communities, those events are so important to that community, and the charity money raised is important to those golf fans. I always thought the PGA Tour should expand their reach rather than contract their reach.
