{"id":437733,"date":"2026-03-07T23:59:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T23:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=437733"},"modified":"2026-03-07T23:59:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T23:59:11","slug":"scottie-scheffler-struggled-during-2nd-round-of-arnold-palmer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/scottie-scheffler-struggled-during-2nd-round-of-arnold-palmer\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottie Scheffler Struggled During 2nd Round Of Arnold Palmer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third signature event of the 2026 PGA season is proving difficult for the pros on the field.\u00a0 The Arnold Palmer, being held at Bay Hill Club &amp; Lodge, is one of those courses known for its difficulty.\u00a0 Justin Thomas, who just made his return after a lengthy recovery,<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/justin-thomas-struggling-badly-at-bay-hill\/\" target=\"_self\"> missed the cut this Friday<\/a>.\u00a0 Even some of the top players are struggling on the course, including Scottie Scheffler.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scottie Scheffler During Round Two<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This past Friday, Scheffler was feeling the pressure of the course.\u00a0 He did make the cut with his first two rounds, ending in scores of 70 and 71.\u00a0 However, there were a few moments that got to him.\u00a0 During the 15th hole on Friday, he believed he had a perfect aim.\u00a0 Instead, he found his ball bounced directly into a bunker.\u00a0 On the 18th hole on Friday, Scheffler had the chance to save a par on the green.\u00a0 It was a ten-foot putt; he took the shot, but the ball veered off course just enough to miss the hole.\u00a0 After tapping the ball into the hole and retrieving it, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/scottie-scheffler-loses-cool-at-tour-championship\/\" target=\"_self\">Scheffler had a rare moment<\/a> of expressing his frustration by <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ThomasCookTV\/status\/2030055893014868053?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2030055893014868053%7Ctwgr%5E4b881d9e3246d9591f65caddce55437316180436%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfmagic.com%2Ftour%2Fpga-tour%2Flittle-silly-scottie-scheffler-explains-furious-reaction-missed-putt-bay-hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chucking it into the water<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheffler Vents To The Reporters.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After losing his par, Scheffler had a post-round interview with the reporters where he began describing his frustrations with the course.\u00a0 He told the<a  href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/daniel-berger-arnold-palmer-invitational-bay-hill-feca14608a2c931649917a938ba1dbc6\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> following to the Associated Press:<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;You can always hit it softer. I was surprised the ball picked up speed as it was rolling. There&#8217;s no friction. When the ball starts rolling, you&#8217;re at the mercy of the wind and the bumps.&#8221;\u00a0 Scheffler added, &#8220;It&#8217;s been like this before. Typically, here, if you go late Friday, they&#8217;re pretty much already dead. It&#8217;s not anything unusual. It&#8217;s a good test. It&#8217;s hard. There are certain holes that get a little silly because the run-ups are soft and the greens are so firm. But it&#8217;s like that every year. This year is actually less windy.\u00a0 If we had crazy wind, they probably would have had to stop.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheffler isn\u2019t alone in his frustrations.\u00a0 Justin Thomas had his own troubles and has stated that he was glad that he wasn\u2019t playing into the weekend with how this field is.\u00a0 Players like Theegala, Bhatia, and Morikawa have expressed the difficulty the course provides, although Theegala and Bhatia stated that they do like the challenge.\u00a0 This challenge is by design.\u00a0 Former PGA pro and grandson of the tournament&#8217;s namesake, Sam Saunders, has stated that this tournament is meant to challenge every skill that a golfer would have.\u00a0 He went on to say that the pros need to keep their skills sharp for this course.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It Could Get Worse For The Players<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the second round, Scottie Scheffler gave the following statement on the tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;They&#8217;re already dead. I&#8217;m not sure how much deader they can get. Like, 15 is completely dead.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This course is a struggle, but it could always get worse for everyone involved.\u00a0 Scheffler mentioned that there wasn\u2019t even wind this time, but that could easily change at a moment&#8217;s notice.\u00a0 At the time of writing, the third round is wrapping up with<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/back-injury-forces-rory-mcilroy-out-of-arnold-palmer-invitational\/\" target=\"_self\"> Rory McIlroy having to withdraw<\/a>.
