{"id":437634,"date":"2026-02-05T20:45:44","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T20:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=437634"},"modified":"2026-02-05T20:45:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T20:45:44","slug":"liv-golf-players-react-to-the-owgr-points-they-can-earn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/liv-golf-players-react-to-the-owgr-points-they-can-earn\/","title":{"rendered":"LIV Golf Players React To The OWGR Points They Can Earn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After years of talks and a<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/liv-golf-adopts-72-hole-format-a-bid-for-owgr-recognition\/\" target=\"_self\"> big format change,<\/a> the OWGR and LIV Golf have reached a<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/only-10-liv-golf-players-will-earn-owgr-points-heres-why\/\" target=\"_self\"> deal for awarding global ranking points<\/a>.\u00a0 A promise that LIV has been making for its players since its inception.\u00a0 Now the league can guarantee points from its own events, but only from the top ten players.\u00a0 Both the OWGR and LIV have stated how difficult it was to come to even that agreement, but now the players are responding.\u00a0 Their response is either hopeful or not impressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryson DeChambeau On LIV Golf OWGR Points<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the neutral side of the discussion, <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/frosty920\/status\/2018779354386600297\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bryson DeChameau has given his take<\/a> on the decision.\u00a0 He\u2019s glad that points are finally being awarded, but he\u2019s not entirely sure what to make of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI haven&#8217;t been able to digest it fully (OWGR decision). I&#8217;ve seen just a potential for what they&#8217;re saying, like the breakdown of points, the top 10. I have no idea really what to think about it now.\u00a0 I&#8217;m just digesting it right.\u00a0 I had no idea how they were going to handle it. I didn&#8217;t know if we were going to get points. So, at least we were getting points, right?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/liv-golf-might-be-losing-its-top-players\/\" target=\"_self\">DeChambeau<\/a> is not sure of how fair the decision will be for him or his colleagues in LIV Golf.\u00a0 During the interview, he had just gotten word of the decision, and as he said, he was still just trying to digest it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jon Rahm\u2019s Response<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On a somewhat more positive note, <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/flushingitgolf\/status\/2019141237731676638\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jon Rahm was looking on the bright side<\/a> of the agreement between the organizations.\u00a0 He\u2019s, of course, glad that players have a chance to earn points, but he also sees this as a way for the league to get its foot in the door.\u00a0 However, Rahm doesn\u2019t think it\u2019s entirely fair, due to the caveat around only the top ten getting points.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t like that LIV isn\u2019t being treated on equal footing with other tours.\u00a0 Rahm ends his interview on a positive note that, sure, there is work to be done, but this could be expanded into full recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lee Westwood Defends LIV<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking over at<a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RBaroff427\/status\/2019045937050746931\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Lee Westwood,<\/a> he finds the details of the OWGR completely unfair to anyone outside of the top 10.\u00a0 He makes a point that the younger golfers who are starting on LIV will have their careers stunted.\u00a0 Given the stiff competition they\u2019re playing against, they will have a hard time earning enough OWGR points to do much of anything outside of LIV.\u00a0 Westwood sees the decision as more bias against the league.\u00a0 With the limited points and handout, he doesn\u2019t see it as LIV being taken seriously.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIV Players With A Mixed Bag<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Players are still processing what the agreement means.\u00a0 On the one hand, they are glad to finally be earning OWGR points for LIV Golf events.\u00a0 On the other hand, they can see that it\u2019s not nearly as much as for a PGA event or DP World Tour event.\u00a0 For the foreseeable future, LIV players will still
