{"id":437625,"date":"2026-02-02T03:16:18","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T03:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=437625"},"modified":"2026-02-02T03:16:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T03:16:18","slug":"michael-brennan-explains-his-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/michael-brennan-explains-his-disqualification\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Brennan Explains His Disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the Farmers Insurance Open, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/michael-brennan-a-new-rising-star-for-the-pga\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_self\">Michael Brennan<\/a> had a fair opening.\u00a0 On the first day, he finished with a score of 70.\u00a0 All was well until it was brought to the attention of a PGA rules official that Brennan had violated rules regarding the green maps.\u00a0 The incident left him disqualified from the event, and Brennan would later clarify what happened to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rule Michael Brennan Broke<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Brennan\u2019s explanation of what happened, he did clarify the rule that he unknowingly broke.\u00a0 It was Local Rule G-11, which regards handwritten notes on green maps.\u00a0 They are only allowed in approved books and sheets, with limited information.\u00a0 It\u2019s a newer rule that was only implemented back in 2022.\u00a0 Brennan had made notes on the green map itself, which is something he didn\u2019t realize wasn\u2019t allowed, and he inadvertently told on himself.\u00a0 In <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUKVzIGEdFQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brennan\u2019s Instagram post<\/a>, he said the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cJust wanted to clear the air on what happened at the Farmers Insurance Open this week.\u00a0 I started working with a new course data analyst at the beginning of the week in an effort to improve my course strategy.\u00a0 The evening before each round, he sends the hole locations on green maps to help plan approach shots.\u00a0 After completion of my round, I asked him for clarification;
