LIV Golf status.\u00a0 Patrick Reed <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/patrick-reed-considers-leaving-liv-golf-for-possible-pga-tour-return\/\" target=\"_self\">was a name that often came up<\/a> due to contract renegotiations.\u00a0 Then, on January 28th, Reed <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PReedGolf\/status\/2016555892376850475?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2016555892376850475%7Ctwgr%5E75033324c8181246d4aa87295f1664a4f0536361%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.espn.com%2Fgolf%2Fstory%2F_%2Fid%2F47754948%2Fpatrick-reed-planning-return-pga-tour-liv-golf-august\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced on his public Twitter<\/a> account that he is making the switch and could be playing again as soon as this August.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Patrick Reed Is Switching<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reed has always held the PGA Tour up high.\u00a0 In his announcement for his return, he even said that he was \u201cborn to play on the PGA Tour.\u201d\u00a0 He would even go on to say that it is the best in the world.\u00a0 Before making the decision, Reed\u2019s contract was still not finalized.\u00a0 This was his second contract, as the first one was due to expire at the end of the year.\u00a0 His decision finally came after the Dubai Desert Classic.\u00a0 After his victory, he says that he realized how much he missed the grind, something he\u2019s just not getting on LIV.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reed\u2019s Announcement And Player Response<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The announcement of Patrick Reed\u2019s departure came on Wednesday morning.\u00a0 In this announcement, he made it clear that he won\u2019t be able to play a full season until next year.\u00a0 Reed is still subject to the suspension.\u00a0 With his last LIV Golf event being last August, he will be able to play off the regular season.\u00a0 In his announcement, Reed expressed his gratitude for the time he spent with LIV Golf.\u00a0 He was careful to emphasize that this was an amicable split.\u00a0 No hard feelings are being shared.\u00a0 Reed also made sure to shout out Dustin Johnson and The Aces, his former captain and team.\u00a0 Reed is excited to play for the PGA again.\u00a0 However, until the suspension runs out, he will be playing on the DP World Tour.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patrick Reed won\u2019t be coming back through the returning members program.\u00a0 The program applies to major winners since 2022, and his victory was in 2018.\u00a0 Still an important addition for the PGA, but just outside of the official reinstatement program.\u00a0 Players like Rory McIlroy have taken note of the recent switches.\u00a0 He said that LIV players are \u201cmaybe starting to realize that they&#8217;re not getting everything that they wanted out of going over there.\u201d\u00a0 If McIlroy is right, then it most likely plays back into the restrictions that LIV Golf has hanging over itself, such as th<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/liv-golf-adopts-72-hole-format-a-bid-for-owgr-recognition\/\" target=\"_self\">e lack of OWGR points.<\/a>\u00a0 Nonetheless, McIlroy believes that the switches will only be good for the Tour, no matter how many happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Pathway Back Into The PGA<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2025 was full of talk about players making their grand return to the PGA, and now in 2026, those returns are being seen.\u00a0 It will, of course, be good for the PGA Tour as familiar faces begin making their comebacks, but it can also be seen as good for the players in question.\u00a0 Before, they had to do more work to keep their OWGR standing and remain eligible for any major they hadn\u2019t won.\u00a0 Admittedly, both Reed and Koepka are the types of players who are happy to put in the extra work, but they also are happier playing for leagues like the PGA.\u00a0 Now that two players are making their returns, fans can start asking: who\u2019s next?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Main Photo Credit:\u00a0 \u00a9 Marc Lebryk-Imagn Images<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Brooks Koepka making the switch from LIV to PGA, there have been a lot of questions about other players&#8217;
