Spieth Criticized For Relying On Sponsorship Exemptions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the last event of the PGA Tour wrapped up for 2025, the schedule is now being set for next season.\u00a0 This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/signature-event-model-is-working-according-to-rory-mcilroy\/\" target=\"_self\">the Signature events<\/a>.\u00a0 The tournaments with larger purses and limited field sizes of some of the best players on the Tour.\u00a0 There are a few ways to get into a Signature event.\u00a0 However, for 2026, Jordan Spieth will be relying on sponsorship exemptions.\u00a0 Something that is generating a lot of criticism for Spieth and the Tour.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Is Jordan Spieth On Sponsorship Exemptions?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to the Signature Events, the paths into the roster are built to gather the best players on Tour.\u00a0 To start, the top fifty from the previous FedEx Cup are in.\u00a0 Then it goes to the top 10 for the current FedEx rankings.\u00a0 Next are the top 30 in the OWGR, and then, the PGA event winners in the current season.\u00a0 Spieth is just beyond the top 50 for the 2025 FedEx.\u00a0 He stands at No. 72 on the OWGR, and the rest is dependent on <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/the-sentry-is-cancelled-for-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">how 2026 will go<\/a>.\u00a0 Due to those factors, Spieth will need to rely on the sponsorship exemptions for at least the first two Signatures of 2026.\u00a0 Something that is maligned by fans and commentators.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sponsorship Exemption Criticised<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going onto the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pJrfbTnV9U8\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Golf Channel Podcast,<\/a> Rex Hoggard had a lot to say about the sponsorship exemptions.\u00a0 Part of his criticism is that Spieth didn\u2019t play any tournaments in the Fall Series.\u00a0 The fall series helps to fill in positions that would otherwise not be addressed until the next season is well underway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese guys play all year long, they play a really gruelling schedule.\u00a0 It\u2019s only going to become more gruelling next year.\u00a0 You deserve the time off, but it is tough when you\u2019re in that category, and you didn&#8217;t play once in the fall.\u00a0 You didn\u2019t even give it one shot\u2026\u00a0 I just don\u2019t understand why he made the choice of not even playing if all he needed to do was make one cut and he would have finished in that category, and he wouldn\u2019t even be in this conversation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hoggard went on to say that he is pretty tired of talking about sponsorship exemptions.\u00a0 Only a few players ever take them at a time, yet the conversation comes up every time.\u00a0 He is giving Spieth some leeway as he <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/jordan-spieth-speaks-on-balancing-golf-greatness-with-fatherhood\/\" target=\"_self\">became a father of three<\/a> this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spieth On The Exemptions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jordan Spieth has previously spoken about being on a sponsorship exemption.\u00a0 It had to do with the exemptions he had this year.\u00a0 Spieth doesn\u2019t like asking for such exemptions.\u00a0 He was glad to be able to play in the signatures, but he just didn\u2019t like the path he took to be part of them.\u00a0 Spieth would describe the events as something that he couldn\u2019t just miss.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spieth Exemptions In 2026<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the first Signature of 2026, Spieth will have an exemption.\u00a0 His sponsor also happens to be AT&amp;T, which hosts the Pebble Beach event.\u00a0 For Spieth to avoid any ire for the sponsorship exemptions for 2027, he\u2019ll need to improve his game or play in the fall series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span
