{"id":437199,"date":"2025-10-24T01:53:38","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T01:53:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=437199"},"modified":"2025-10-24T01:53:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T01:53:38","slug":"ryder-cup-situation-gains-attention-of-masters-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/ryder-cup-situation-gains-attention-of-masters-head\/","title":{"rendered":"Ryder Cup Situation Gains Attention Of Masters Head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the Ryder Cup, there was a major issue that happened not with the teams but with the crowds.\u00a0 Whenever the European team was up to play, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/bethpage-black-turns-hostile-as-rory-mcilroy-and-shane-lowry-face-worst-behavior-ever-seen\/\" target=\"_self\">US spectators started shouting, booing, and heckling the players<\/a>.\u00a0 It was bad enough that Rory McIlroy feels like the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/rory-mcilroy-wants-the-ryder-cup-discussion-to-shift\/\" target=\"_self\">focus post-tournament has been on the hecklers<\/a> rather than the game itself.\u00a0 Now the heads of the R&amp;A and the Masters have started calling for the Ryder Cup to address the problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Crowds At Bethpage<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The crowds at Bethpage were rough.\u00a0 Ahead of the tournament, Collin Morikawa put out a statement saying, \u201cI hope they go crazy.\u201d\u00a0 It seems that fans interpreted this as a message to give the Euro team a hard time.\u00a0 Morikawa later put out a statement saying that he just wanted to get the crowd hyped for the event.\u00a0 H<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/im-not-to-blame-morikawa-responds-to-ryder-cup-absolute-chaos-controversy\/\" target=\"_self\">e doesn\u2019t take the responsibility for what happened.<\/a>\u00a0 Yet the crowds persisted.\u00a0 Eventually, penalties were handed out to the spectators who engaged in the noise.\u00a0 Especially after the European team began to refuse to play when the crowds got too loud.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After The Ryder Cup<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has now been a month since the Ryder Cup, and fans are still talking about the hecklers at the tournament.\u00a0 Now, other event heads are looking at the Ryder Cup and are calling for action to be taken.\u00a0 This includes R&amp;A head Mark Darbon and Masters head Fred Ridley.\u00a0 The argument goes back to golf being considered a gentleman&#8217;s sport.\u00a0 There is a level of respect expected for all parties involved.\u00a0 This is the sport that coined the term \u201cgolf clap.\u201d\u00a0 On Thursday at the Asia Amateur Championship, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.golfdigest.com\/story\/golf-fan-behavior-fred-ridley-mark-darbon-masters-randa-warning-control\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fred Ridley was asked about the Ryder Cup.<\/a>\u00a0 He started out saying that he was glad the event was getting more popular and competitive.\u00a0 He just wasn\u2019t happy with the hecklers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI don&#8217;t think that anyone was particularly happy with what happened this year,\u201d Ridley continued. \u201cI think it just reminds us, as custodians of the game, of the responsibility that we have to perpetuate its underlying values. And I think hopefully that this is something we&#8217;re going to focus on more, and because that&#8217;s part of what makes golf special is that it is a different sort of set of rules, if you will.
