LIV Golf has had a rough existence.\u00a0 Underneath all the glitz and glam of a LIV tournament exists a financier\u2019s worst nightmare.\u00a0 The league is constantly operating at a loss and is very reliant on the star power it has poached from the PGA.\u00a0 Recently, the league has been attempting to recruit potential stars in an effort to enhance its name recognition in the future.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the up-and-coming golfer, Marco Penge, has instead accepted a Tour Card and will be playing as soon as 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

Marco Penge\u2019s PGA Preference<\/span><\/h2>\n

Looking at the lead-up to his announcement of joining the PGA,<\/a> it’s not a surprise that he wouldn\u2019t go to LIV.\u00a0 In a post on Twitter, Penge has admitted that he never watched a single LIV Golf match.\u00a0 His only exposure to LIV players is outside of LIV, such as watching the Ryder Cup or playing against Jon Rahm for the Spanish Open.\u00a0 A tournament that Penge earlier won.\u00a0 This all came out after it was revealed that LIV Golf was already eyeing two PGA winners<\/a> for recruitment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Penge\u2019s Fans Weigh In<\/span><\/h2>\n

The way fans have responded to Penge\u2019s Tour Card announcement certainly feels like a warning to LIV Golf\u2019s future.\u00a0 One comment pointed out how, beyond the ones that have already joined LIV, the best players are avoiding the league like the plague.\u00a0 Rory McIlroy is a well-known LIV critic.\u00a0 More comments were pointing out how stifling the league is for any new and old players alike.\u00a0 The league has a lot of closed doors for its players, and some star players have lost public visibility.\u00a0 Two comments encapsulated the consensus.\u00a0 The comment reads:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would any talented player go to second-rate LIV?\u00a0 Less visibility, respect, events, and opportunities to play in majors.”<\/span><\/p>\n

With Penge avoiding LIV and going to the PGA, his fans are wishing him the best of luck.\u00a0 With his recent tournament win in the bag, it will be interesting to see how he plays stateside.\u00a0 He also has a spot booked in two majors for 2026, the Masters and The Open.\u00a0 Things are looking bright for the English Golfer.<\/span><\/p>\n

LIV Golf\u2019s Image Problem Among Golfers<\/span><\/h2>\n

Penge specifically avoids LIV Golf; even in just watching it on TV, it brings to light a major issue LIV Golf has.\u00a0 The league has an image issue.\u00a0 Without getting into exactly why the league is seen as controversial, it is just not good for a golf career.\u00a0 The OWGR doesn\u2019t award points<\/a> for the league’s events, simultaneously closing off paths to majors and global rankings.\u00a0 Furthermore, the format of each tournament is not at the same skill level as other leagues.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Sure, it\u2019s relaxing for the players and less stressful, but that comes back to bite them when they are not prepared for playing outside of the league.\u00a0 Bryson DeChambeau is one of the few exceptions<\/a> to that.\u00a0 Younger rookie players and up-and-coming players are seeing this and are consequently making the active choice to stay with the established leagues.\u00a0 The PIF seems to be unwilling to give up on LIV Golf.\u00a0 However, the rest of the golf world might make that decision for them.<\/span><\/p>\n
