{"id":437093,"date":"2025-10-13T02:46:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T02:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=437093"},"modified":"2025-10-13T02:46:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T02:46:36","slug":"the-tour-is-doing-fine-without-brooks-koepka-says-chamblee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/the-tour-is-doing-fine-without-brooks-koepka-says-chamblee\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Tour Is Doing Fine Without Brooks Koepka,&#8221; Says Chamblee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, there were many rumors about LIV Golf defections spreading around.\u00a0 They started coming up because several former PGA Tour stars had <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/08\/bryson-dechambeau-liv-golf\/\" target=\"_self\">LIV contracts that were about to expire.<\/a>\u00a0 This included players like Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.\u00a0 The talks only grew as <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/04\/09\/pga-liv-merger-talks-have-stalled-once-again\/\" target=\"_self\">the PGA-LIV merger stalled again and again<\/a>.\u00a0 However, there is a path for players like Koepka to get back in the PGA, but those star players may need to jump through a few more hoops.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brooks Koepka and LIV Golf<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite splitting with the PGA early into LIV Golf\u2019s run, Brooks Koepka has had a few words about the start-up league.\u00a0 Back in March, he went as far as saying that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/28\/brooks-koepka-says-liv-golf-is-behind\/\" target=\"_self\">the league is \u201cbehind where we should be.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0 Behind financially, in viewership, and in sponsorship.\u00a0 If the league stays behind, it might not live to see another year.\u00a0 There is a lot that goes into keeping a league running.\u00a0 However, if the league were to go under tomorrow, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/05\/pga-liv-merger\/\" target=\"_self\">players on the PGA are eager to play with the LIV players again<\/a> outside of majors.\u00a0 Unfortunately for those LIV players, they will need to jump through a couple of hoops before they are welcomed back.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brandel Chamblee On What Will happen<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the past, Brandel Chamblee has never been shy about criticising LIV Golf.\u00a0 He and Rory McIlroy are competing to be the league\u2019s number one hater.\u00a0 Before Chamblee has bashed the league for its <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/20\/brandel-chamblee-liv-golf-viewership\/\" target=\"_self\">low viewership numbers<\/a>, often dwarfed by any PGA tournament.\u00a0 When <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KnAlm3Ukkok&amp;t=6s\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chamblee went on Trey Wingo\u2019s Straight Facts Homie Podcast<\/a>, they started talking about how many contracts were due to expire as soon as this year.\u00a0 The conversation turned towards how players like Koepka could come back.\u00a0 Chamblee said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI know everybody will say, \u2018We want Brooks back straight away\u2019. Well, the Tour is doing fine without Brooks Koepka, they\u2019re doing fine without Phil Mickelson, they\u2019re doing fine without Dustin Johnson, doing fine without Jon Rahm. There has to be some penalty.\u00a0 Let\u2019s not forget, the Tour had to spend a lot of money to fight that litigation and eventually end that litigation.
