Right before the Irish Cup began, Sergio Garcia got some unfortunate news for his Ryder Cup<\/a> prospects.\u00a0 He was rejected, despite having great success with the European team during previous cups.\u00a0 The news has led to Garcia pulling out of the Irish Open,<\/a> leaving the other players at the event baffled.\u00a0 This week, fellow Ryder Cup player Jon Rahm has weighed in on why he thinks Garcia was passed over.\u00a0 His Theory has to do with Garcia\u2019s 2025 season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sergio Garcia In Previous Ryder Cups<\/span><\/h2>\n

Up until 2023, Sergio Garcia has done pretty well for the European Ryder Cup team.\u00a0 He was even the top points earner and still holds that record.\u00a0 This history is what Garcia was banking on to get into the cup.\u00a0 The only reason for the gap starting in 2023 was that he was playing for LIV Golf.\u00a0 With the league having been embargoed by the rest of the golf world,<\/a> he couldn\u2019t earn his Ryder Cup points to get onto a team.\u00a0 Things have lightened up for LIV players since then, but it still meant extra work.\u00a0 Despite all the work that Garcia went through, he still couldn\u2019t get in.\u00a0 Jon Rahm, though, has a theory on what happened.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jon Rahm On Why Garcia Was Rejected<\/span><\/h2>\n

Rahm thinks that the reason why Garcia was rejected was simply because of his performance this season.\u00a0 During the last nine events, he underperformed, and despite Garcia having a history with the Ryder Cup, this season didn\u2019t do him many favors.\u00a0 Jon Rahm went on to describe Garcia\u2019s situation.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe did play good early on in the year, very, very good. He was playing incredible golf, maybe in some parts of the world that you weren\u2019t watching.\u201d\u00a0 Rahm went on to say, \u201cIt seemed like from April on, he didn\u2019t keep that level. So I don\u2019t think he helped himself.\u00a0 I understand that while we are not earning points or the rankings, we need to make a really strong case to be picked.\u00a0 Had he kept that level, he might have been on the team, but he didn\u2019t play as good as he could have. Subjectively, I\u2019m always going to root for him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rahm would reminisce on how he and Garcia played during the 2021 Ryder Cup.\u00a0 With that last line in the interview, Rahm made it clear that he would always be right behind his friend to support him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Garcia And Rahm For The Next Ryder Cup<\/span><\/h2>\n

When Sergio Garcia was rejected by Luke Donald for the European team, the news broke his heart.\u00a0 It put him in a bad headspace to compete, which was his reasoning for pulling out of the Irish Open.\u00a0 Hearing as to why he was rejected by his friend will be an eye-opening experience.\u00a0 With those words for Jon Rahm, Garcia will most likely be looking at ways to improve his chances the next time the Ryder Cup comes around in 2027.\u00a0 He has two more years to train up for the next event.\u00a0 All the while, Sergio Garcia will be getting support from Jon Rahm.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
