Scottie Scheffler<\/a> will be without his trusted caddie, Ted Scott, again at the 2025 BMW Championship<\/a>. Scott, who has been on Scheffler\u2019s bag for some of the biggest wins of his career, is still away due to a family matter. Tour chaplain and Scheffler\u2019s personal friend, Brad Payne, stood in for Scott at the FedEx St. Jude Championship,<\/a> where Scheffler finished T-3.<\/p>\n

Scott\u2019s Continuous Absence Down To Family Matter<\/h2>\n

Scott has been a constant presence during Scheffler\u2019s rise to the top of golf. The 52-year-old has been on the bag for all of Scheffler\u2019s 17 PGA Tour victories and three major championships. He was also on the bag when Scheffler won gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.<\/p>\n

Despite his near-constant presence as Scheffler\u2019s caddie, he has had to miss a few events. He stepped away for a round at the 2024 PGA Championship to attend his daughter\u2019s high school graduation. Then, at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, he left after the third round because of a family emergency.<\/p>\n

Scheffler worked with Brad Payne as a temporary caddie at the PGA Championship. Payne was also on the bag during last week\u2019s FedEx St. Jude Championship.<\/p>\n

Mike Commie To Be Scheffler’s Caddie For BMW Championship<\/h2>\n

Scheffler will be turning to a new face for the BMW Championship, with Mike Cromie, who has previously caddied for Chris Kirk, stepping in for Scott. Cromie is well respected in golf circles and brings plenty of experience, but it will be his first time carrying Scheffler\u2019s bag in a tournament setting. Aside from his time serving as Kirk\u2019s caddie, Cromie previously played college golf at the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n

Scheffler\u2019s spot in next week\u2019s Tour Championship is already guaranteed, and the American will compete for the United States at the 2025 Ryder Cup<\/a> at Bethpage Black in late September. The 29-year-old enters the week as one of the favorites. He has been in strong form throughout 2025 and remains one of the most consistent players on Tour.<\/p>\n

Despite the change, Scheffler remains focused on the task ahead. His ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to different situations has been one of his biggest strengths. With a strong showing at the BMW Championship, he could head into the Tour Championship in a commanding position. The world No. 1 is vying for his fifth victory of the season, and he comes into the Tour Championship as number one in the FedExCup standings.<\/p>\n

While Scott’s return is yet to be confirmed, the 52-year-old is expected to return as Scheffler’s caddie soon, as it’s unlikely his absence will lead to them parting ways.<\/p>\n
