The Wyndham Championships are currently in full swing.\u00a0 It also means that the PGA 2025 season is coming to a close, and what a season it has been.\u00a0 Rory McIlroy achieved the coveted career Grand Slam<\/a>, Aldrich Potgieter claimed his first career win<\/a> as a rookie, and the PGA is undergoing a shakeup with its CEO<\/a>.\u00a0 However, during the first two rounds of the Wyndham Championships, there have been five withdrawals.\u00a0 Who withdrew, and why?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The Wyndham Withdrawals First Round<\/span><\/h2>\n

The first two withdrawals happened after the first round.\u00a0 The players in question were Nate Lashley and Kaito Onishi.\u00a0 The two were doing decent during the first round, with Lashley carding 74 and Onishi carding 78.\u00a0 The PGA Tour didn\u2019t provide an official reason as to why the two withdrew, but one can speculate that it might have to do with the FedEx Cup playoffs.\u00a0 The reason why it could be is that neither would qualify even with a victory at Wyndham.\u00a0 Now both players will need to work extra hard to keep their Tour cards next season.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wyndham Withdrawals Second Round\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The next three to withdraw were Erik Van Rooyen, Akshay Bhatia, and Isaiah Salinda.\u00a0 Bhatia and Salinda did not have a reason given.\u00a0 Although Bhatia did have a rough second round, that could have informed his decision.\u00a0 As well as the delays caused by storms in the area, which pushed the rest of the second round to Saturday morning.\u00a0 When he pulled out after 14 holes, he was five over par.\u00a0 His first round was fairly strong, though, with a score of 68.\u00a0 Rooyen had a very good reason to pull out as he sustained a back injury during the second round.\u00a0 This has been confirmed by the official PGA Tour Communications<\/a> Twitter account.\u00a0 All he can do now is rest ahead of the FedEx Cup playoffs<\/a> and hope for the best.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Five During The Wyndham Weren\u2019t Alone<\/span><\/h2>\n

There were actually a number of players who withdrew from Wyndham ahead of the tournament.\u00a0 The list includes some notable names, including Wyndham Clark.\u00a0 The players in question are typically either comfortably in the FedEx Cup qualifications or very much not.\u00a0 The ones who qualify most likely did it in order to better prepare for the playoffs next week in Memphis.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the ones who do not qualify are most likely looking to improve their game for the next season.\u00a0 This does include the ones who dropped during the tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n

Onto The FedEx Cup<\/span><\/h2>\n

At the time of writing, the Wyndham Championships was able to resume and is going as planned.\u00a0 After the final regular tournament for the season is done, though, it is time for the FedEx Cup.\u00a0 From there, it is the top 100 players competing.\u00a0 The stage is already being set, even at Wyndham, with it being speculated as the reason why players are staying or going.\u00a0 Until the playoffs, there are still a few loose ends to tie off before the finale.\u00a0 Those strings are being worked on at Wyndham, so it is still worth keeping an eye on that tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n
