At this point, the story of how LIV Golf started is fairly well known.\u00a0 A new renegade golf league broke onto the scene and has disrupted the sport for better and for worse.\u00a0 LIV managed to make some splashes by signing contracts with well-known pros.\u00a0 The tournaments for LIV Golf are big, bombastic, with a lot of money going into each one for the world tour format it has.\u00a0 LIV Golf has a slogan that accompanies every tournament, \u201cGolf But Loud,\u201d and the league lives up to it by featuring big-name players who perform live music.\u00a0 However, on the Dan On Golf podcast, host of the show Dan Rapaport has noticed that the new league is struggling to make a new star for the sport, while the PGA has them constantly rolling in.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dan Rapaport On The Rookies<\/span><\/h2>\n

The argument that Rapaport is making is based on simple observation.\u00a0 Sure, LIV Golf has all these stars who joined when the league first formed, but not much beyond them.\u00a0 There have been rookie players who joined LIV, but they rarely get much attention.\u00a0 Meanwhile, at the PGA Tour, players like Danny Walker are gaining traction<\/a> in just the first half of their first year.\u00a0 Rapaport said this on his show<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe PGA Tour has an ability to coin new stars that LIV just doesn\u2019t. They just don\u2019t. The closest thing to a star that they\u2019ve created is Joaquin Niemann, and all the discourse is about how he doesn\u2019t do s\u2013t in the majors. It\u2019s not like, \u2018oh, he\u2019s a new star in the game\u2019. It\u2019s like, \u2018Well, he hasn\u2019t proven it in the majors. \u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rapaport Highlights Rookies In Both Leagues<\/span><\/h2>\n

Joaquin Niemann was even told that he should move to the PGA if he wants to someday gain a better advantage.\u00a0 Rapaport mentioned that the PGA is seeing a lot of success through its PGA Tour U program.\u00a0 This brought the aforementioned Danny Walker, as well as Luke Clanton, who earned his Tour card<\/a> this year.\u00a0 Aldrich Potgieter is still a rookie and just won the Rocket Classic<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

LIV Golf did have a chance with Eugenio Chacarra, who actually won a tournament in the league’s first season.\u00a0 However, multiple issues, including the lack of exposure after his first win, led to him leaving the league.\u00a0 Chacarra is now working towards his Tour Card<\/a> through the DP World Tour while he waits for his suspension to time out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pros And Cons Of Joining LIV<\/span><\/h2>\n

There are plenty of pros to joining LIV Golf for professional players.\u00a0 The world Tour aspect means that the players are always seeing new countries.\u00a0 The fanfare that comes with a LIV Golf event is exhilarating.\u00a0 Although it won\u2019t be around for much longer, the contracts pay out incredibly well, more than enough to live comfortably.\u00a0 However, there are a number of cons to joining the league.\u00a0 Despite the merger efforts with the PGA, the rest of the world is against the league, including the PGA.\u00a0 Players are barred from other leagues, and the OWGR doesn\u2019t recognize LIV events.\u00a0 Also, as Rapaport has noticed, the league doesn\u2019t seem interested in highlighting its rookie players.<\/span><\/p>\n
