The 29‑year‑old American was quick to distance himself from any talk of being the next Tiger after winning his fourth major title at Royal Portrush in dominant fashion, calling the comparisons “a bit silly.”

Scheffler Insists Tiger Woods Stands Alone In The Game of Golf

Scottie Scheffler’s dominant victory at the 2025 Open Championship has sparked a wave of comparisons to golf legend Tiger Woods. With four major titles under his belt and a firm grip on the Official World Golf Ranking top spot, many in the golf world are wondering if Scheffler is on the path to becoming the next great icon of the sport. However, Scheffler himself has been quick to shut down such talk, insisting that Tiger’s legacy remains untouched.

After lifting the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush, Scheffler was asked how it felt to be placed in the same conversation as Woods. “I still think they’re a bit silly,” Scheffler said. “You know, Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He was inspirational for me growing up. He was a very, very talented guy, and he was a special person to be able to be as good as he was in the game of golf.”

Scheffler began the final round of the Open Championship with a comfortable lead and never lost control of the tournament. Despite a rare mistake on the 8th hole, where he made a double bogey, he stayed focused and bounced back quickly. He ended the day with a final‑round score of 68, finishing at 17‑under par.

Incredible Scheffler Earns Woods Comparison

This win marks Scheffler’s first Open Championship title and his fourth major win overall. He has now won the Masters twice (in 2022 and 2024), the PGA Championship (2025), and now The Open; the only major title he’s missing is the U.S. Open. Scheffler will be hoping to win it next year to complete his career Grand Slam and join the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the exclusive club.

Scheffler’s achievements make it easy to see why he has earned comparisons with Tiger Woods. The 29‑year‑old has now become the third‑youngest golfer to win 15 PGA Tour events and four major championships. Only Tiger Woods (24) and Jack Nicklaus (25) reached that mark earlier Scheffler is also one of just four players in golf history to win the Masters, the Open Championship, and the PGA Championship before turning 30. The others are Woods, Nicklaus, and Gary Player.

Scheffler also joins a small group of players (Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Brooks Koepka) who have won four or more majors in their first 25 major tournaments over the last 50 years.

Main Photo Credit: © Mike Frey-Imagn Images

Newly crowned Open Championship winner Scottie Scheffler has played down comparisons with legendary golfer Tiger Woods, despite growing talks among fans and analysts.
