{"id":435692,"date":"2025-07-08T04:09:24","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T04:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=435692"},"modified":"2025-07-08T04:09:24","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T04:09:24","slug":"eugenio-chacarra-heading-to-genesis-scottish-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/eugenio-chacarra-heading-to-genesis-scottish-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Eugenio Chacarra Heading to Genesis Scottish Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The relationship between the PGA and LIV Golf remains strained despite many efforts for a merger since 2023.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/pga-liv-merger-talks-have-stalled-once-again\/\" target=\"_self\">Talks have stalled at multiple points<\/a> and even intervention from the president of the USA hasn\u2019t helped clear things up.\u00a0 The players for both leagues have been in favor of one major aspect of the merger, the ability to play against each other in non-major events again.\u00a0 Given that the players from LIV have split off from leagues like the PGA which barred participation from them.\u00a0 Some players got tired of waiting and are working their way back into the old leagues.\u00a0 That includes Eugenio Chacarra, who is set to play in the Genesis Scottish Open this week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Path To Scotland<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout this season, Eugenio Chacarra has had the goal of earning his Tour card for the PGA by year\u2019s end.\u00a0 He has been doing this by participating in the DP World Tour and has grown his career from there.\u00a0 Not to say he hasn\u2019t during his time at LIV.\u00a0 Chacarra got his professional start in LIV Golf\u2019s inaugural season and played til the end of the 2024 season, but he had some grievances.\u00a0<a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/flushingitgolf\/status\/1877831823683932314\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> The OWGR points were a major contention<\/a>, as the league has yet to strike a deal with the organization.\u00a0 Another is a lack of acknowledgment of his achievements in the league.\u00a0 Chacarra was pushed out of the league and is trying to put his past there behind him while going for his next goal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eugenio Chacarra Heading to Scotland<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Genesis Scottish Open is one of the more recent PGA Tour events, in the sense that it has only recently been put on the Tour\u2019s map.\u00a0 It has been jointly held by the European Tour and the PGA Tour since 2022, but the event has existed for much longer.\u00a0 This is also why Chacarra\u2019s suspension doesn\u2019t apply to this event.\u00a0 If it were a purely PGA event, it would be a different story.\u00a0 The Genesis Scottish Open is also the last chance to qualify for the Open Championship.\u00a0 Also known as the British Open, the last major of the year.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/from-liv-golf-to-major-contender-eugenio-lopez-chacarra-qualifies-for-pga-championship\/\" target=\"_self\">Chacarra has competed in the PGA Championship<\/a>, and if he qualifies at the end of the Scottish Open, he can move to the British Open and have a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/eugenio-chacarra-slams-liv-golf\/\" target=\"_self\">better chance of earning his PGA Tour card<\/a>.\u00a0 That is the path the Genesis Scottish Open is laying out for Chacarra.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chacarra Getting a Tour Card<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since leaving LIV, it has been Chacarra\u2019s dream to qualify and acquire a Tour card.\u00a0 That way he can play along with the pros in a league he used to dream about playing in.\u00a0 If he can go through the Scottish Open and make it to the British Open, a Tour Card will be within reach once his suspension expires.\u00a0 He will still be doing the Race to Dubai;
