The 2018 Masters winner is not among the top-ranked players for the American team, as he currently sits 33rd in the U.S. standings, making it almost impossible for him to qualify automatically. However, Reed can still make the team if he is picked by Keegan Bradley as one of his captain’s picks.

Nevertheless, the 34-year-old remains hopeful and has admitted that his only real chance of making the team will come through strong performances in the major championships, especially The Open Championship in July at Royal Portrush’s Dunluce Course.

“It’s always on your mind,” Reed said. “Anytime I get to represent our country, it means a lot to me. For me personally, I’m always thinking about trying to make every team. Obviously being a part of LIV where we don’t get points, it’s an uphill battle, but really for me it’s focused on playing some great golf and having a chance. It’s really going to come down to the Open Championship, having a chance to win there.”

Patrick Reed on being a potential Ryder Cup Captain’s pick:

“It’s always on your mind. Reed knows that a win — or at least a strong finish — at The Open at Royal Troon would give him a much-needed boost in credibility and put pressure on Keegan Bradley to consider him as a captain’s pick.

Reed also spoke about his respect for Bradley and the difficult position the new captain finds himself in. With so many talented American players vying for a spot, and with the LIV Golf situation adding extra complications, Bradley will have tough decisions to make.
