{"id":435478,"date":"2025-06-24T02:27:23","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T02:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/?p=435478"},"modified":"2025-06-24T02:27:23","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T02:27:23","slug":"james-piot-making-first-pga-appearance-since-leaving-liv-golf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/james-piot-making-first-pga-appearance-since-leaving-liv-golf\/","title":{"rendered":"James Piot Making First PGA Appearance Since Leaving LIV Golf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Rocket Classic next on the Tour list, the players are making their announcements and arriving at the Detroit Golf Club.\u00a0 In that list is <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/keegan-bradley-climbs-ryder-cup-rankings-after-travelers-championship-victory\/\" target=\"_self\">Keegan Bradley, fresh out of his Travelers Championship victory<\/a>.\u00a0 Luke Clanton is making another rookie appearance<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/luke-clanton-to-make-pro-debut-at-rbc-canadian-open\/\" target=\"_self\"> since going pro in time for the RBC Canadian<\/a>.\u00a0 There is another player who is an interesting sight at the PGA Tour event.\u00a0 This player is the former LIV golfer James Piot, who was raised in the Detroit area.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Piot History<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Piot was still in the amateur circuits when LIV Golf was still setting itself up.\u00a0 He managed to win the 2021 US Amateur at Oakmont before competing in PGA Tour events in 2022.\u00a0 When he first went pro, Piot competed in four PGA Tour events and two majors.\u00a0 The Masters and the US Open.\u00a0 He then decided to hitch his horse to LIV Golf that year during the league&#8217;s inaugural season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piot On LIV Golf<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining LIV Golf in its first year came with the caveat of the PGA Tour suspension.\u00a0 Preventing Piot from competing in any officially sanctioned PGA event.\u00a0 That wasn\u2019t too much of an issue for Piot, though; he was still on LIV, so he could still play during his first pro season.\u00a0 He was on the HyFlyers team under Phil Mickelson.\u00a0 Eventually, the contract he had with LIV lapsed and was not renewed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After LIV<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Piot left LIV, he couldn\u2019t go through the PGA for a year, so instead he would go through other leagues and challenges.\u00a0 He placed first on a mini golf tour in Florida and would eventually go through an event on the Korn Ferry Tour, but also did the Asian Tour to earn points to get back in the game.\u00a0 Piot doesn\u2019t regret his time on LIV and sees it as a learning opportunity and as a way to get his grand start in the world of professional golf.\u00a0 He saw Mickelson as a legend and a great mentor, and looks forward to seeing what he can achieve<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rocket Classic Reaches Out To Piot<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going into the Rocket Classic, Piot didn\u2019t know what would happen.\u00a0 He was trying to qualify for the main event when he received the call.\u00a0 <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PGATOURComms\/status\/1937148570613780814?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1937148570613780814%7Ctwgr%5E823c571e8747f343f4f2660fd19bd5c6f3ca47bf%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfmonthly.com%2Fnews%2Fliv-golf-player-return-pga-tour-withdrawal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He received a sponsor exemption<\/a> guaranteeing him a spot in the event, bringing him back onto the PGA Tour for the first time in three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor it to actually happen is the coolest thing in the world,\u201d Piot told the Detroit News on Monday. \u201cIt\u2019s awesome. Just the fact I finally get to play in the Rocket Classic it\u2019s a dream come true.
