There were still those who were able to overcome some of the hurdles in their way, like <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/sam-burns-u-s-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Sam Burns<\/a> who put up an impressive 65 during his round two showing. Still no performances topped the finish from veteran JJ Spaun, who also overcame outside obstacles in his route to ultimately winning the tournament. Spaun started his Father\u2019s Day in chaos, yet ended the U.S. Open as the winner in front of family and friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fathers Day Special\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spaun went into the fourth round of play, with what could be described as a nightmare to say the least. Having to struggle to find sleep due to his daughter catching a stomach bug, his first stop Sunday morning landed at CVS. Stepping up to his duties as a father, Spaun would later be shown that same gratitude with a final 64-foot birdie putt to end the day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cToday I was running to CVS downtown because my daughter had a stomach bug,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/golf.com\/news\/jj-spaun-survives-rain-chaos-wins-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spaun said.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019m not blaming that on my start, but it kind of just fit the mold of chaos today.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chaos was the correct word by all means, with Spaun putting up five bogeys in his front nine play. Although able to bounce back on the back eight holes, with four birdies and just one bogey. Turning pro in 2012, Spaun only had one career Tour win under his belt before grabbing his first ever major in his career thus far. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I tried to just continue to dig deep,&#8221; Spaun said. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been doing it my whole life.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Spaun Kicks The Door Down<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marking his second career Tour victory, Spaun has now overcome a huge obstacle. Winning a tournament in the Tour is never easy to come by, especially when it\u2019s your second ever at a difficult Oakmont course. Even with the round having to be temporarily suspended due to weather, the opportunity for victory was just too sweet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPeople tell me that I\u2019m better than I think I am, so it\u2019s just about believing in it,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/golf.com\/news\/jj-spaun-survives-rain-chaos-wins-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spaun said.<\/a> \u201cThat\u2019s kind of always been the barrier, like believing that I can do it and not get discouraged by poor weeks or rounds.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That belief was what got the job done with a final birdie, and a chance for his daughters to watch him win in person.
