Despite the problems the RBC Canadian Open had with withdrawals<\/a> before it began, this event shaped up to be something memorable for the players involved.\u00a0 Luke Clanton is playing his first event as a pro<\/a>, and Greyson Sigg had to leave to become a dad<\/a>.\u00a0 There are also a couple of players who got a chance to give their golf careers a good refresh.\u00a0 One of those players is Josh Goldenberg, despite his leaving the sport for an office job.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goldenberg\u2019s Golf Career<\/span><\/h2>\n

Like any other pro athlete, Josh Goldenberg had a dream of playing in the big leagues of the sport since he was a kid.\u00a0 He was able to make it to the pro level in 2019, but since then, he hasn\u2019t had much success in the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour.\u00a0 He did have some standing on the ladder, but not too much.\u00a0 Goldenberg eventually decided it was time to switch careers and use his degree as a fallback.\u00a0 The golfer hung up his golf clubs and, in March, was brought onto Goldman Sachs, where he worked in finance.\u00a0 Not ideal for someone who has worked their way up to go pro.\u00a0 However, it is a steady income that can support a family while keeping them healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The RBC Canadian Open Calls<\/span><\/h2>\n

Goldenberg worked in finance for some months, without practice, when he discovered that he had a chance to get in.\u00a0 That standing he had with the DP World Tour was enough to get him into the <\/span>Open through the qualifying rounds.\u00a0 Goldenberg got some days off, he played, and then he tied for second, earning him a place in the event.\u00a0 No one is more surprised than Goldenberg<\/a>, given that he has already given up on the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you had told me that this was the timeline it was going to happen in, I would have laughed,\u201d Goldenberg said. \u201cI was out there playing for years. I\u2019ve done quite a few of these qualifiers, and now, when I\u2019ve been sitting at a desk for months and not practicing, now is when I make it in?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Goldenberg played to his heart’s content during the Open and was at his peak.\u00a0 He was even four shots ahead of Rory McIlroy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goldenberg After The Tournament<\/span><\/h2>\n

Unfortunately, Goldenberg missed the cut for the final two rounds.\u00a0 However, given that he was already months out of practice, it wasn\u2019t a disappointing performance.\u00a0 His story is somewhat similar to that of Cameron Champ, a professional golfer who was struggling with the sport<\/a>, and this event gave him another chance.\u00a0 Josh Goldenberg still has time left on his DP World Tour status.\u00a0 That status will expire by year’s end, and he plans on taking advantage of it wherever he can.\u00a0 For now, though, Goldenberg is enjoying the feeling of being able to make something of his golf career.\u00a0 Although it wasn\u2019t the best run, he can rest easy knowing that he is going out with a bang.<\/span><\/p>\n
