By this point, fans are aware of the large number of withdrawals <\/a>from the RBC Canadian Open<\/a>.\u00a0 Many needed an extra week to recover before the US Open.\u00a0 Greyson Sigg backed out last minute due to some good news<\/a>.\u00a0 With such high turnover, the first place the event organizers need to go to is the alternate list.\u00a0 A list of golfers who weren\u2019t officially in, but are instead just waiting for an opening.\u00a0 For the Canadian Open, Cameron Champ got the chance to fill one of the positions that opened up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Is Cameron Champ?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Cameron Champ is a former Tour winner, he has won three PGA events since turning pro back in 2017.\u00a0 However, in recent years, he has had a lot of trouble keeping up.\u00a0 His last win was back in 2021 during the 3M Open.\u00a0 As a result, he lost his Tour Card last year.\u00a0 He spent the majority of this season on the Korn Ferry Tour as a way to try to bring himself back up and eventually earn a Tour card.\u00a0 Champ, unfortunately, hasn\u2019t been doing too well on the Korn Ferry with only one top 30 finish.\u00a0 He has made the top 20 in two PGA Tour events, where he made the cut.<\/span><\/p>\n

Champ On Getting In The RBC Canadian Open<\/span><\/h2>\n

Champ did not expect to get into the event at all.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t even in Canada when he was told that he made it.\u00a0 He was in South Carolina preparing for the Korn Ferry event that was set to happen there.\u00a0 Clear on the other side of the continent, believing that there was no chance it would happen.\u00a0 Champ would describe that he only carried his passport on a whim<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely didn’t think I was getting in, especially at eight (alternate),\u201d Champ said. \u201cI know the deadline, some guys will withdraw over the weekend, something like that, but eight, I was like, yeah, probably not getting in. Luckily, I actually brought my passport. I don’t know why I brought it. I was like, you know, I’m just going to bring it in case for whatever reason, not even thinking about the tournament. So it all worked out nicely.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Champ has qualified for the third and fourth rounds of the RBC Canadian Open.\u00a0 He\u2019s doing pretty well for himself and has made the cut for the event.\u00a0 An event that he didn\u2019t even think he would make it to.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Possible Comeback?<\/span><\/h2>\n

It is unclear if Champ will start his comeback here.\u00a0 His performance has always been up and down.\u00a0 He has stated that his current focus is not on golf but on his mental health and the happiness of his family.\u00a0 He is very happy with his performance in Toronto.\u00a0 Champ now has renewed confidence in his ability and knows that he still has it.\u00a0 He was once a rising star who felt everything come down after some injuries took him out and hit him hard mentally.\u00a0 Now, fans get to see a moment of the old Cameron Champ that got him into the Tour to begin with.\u00a0 Maybe in the future he will return to the Tour with renewed vigor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
