In the lead-up to the RBC Canadian Open, there have been several withdrawals.<\/a>\u00a0 Most of which were due to players needing to recover from injuries before the US Open.\u00a0 There is a rookie who is making his first pro appearance,<\/a> but it is being a bit overshadowed by the dropouts.\u00a0 On Wednesday, just the day before the Open was set to begin, Greyson Sigg was a last-minute withdrawal.\u00a0 This time it wasn\u2019t because something bad came up, but instead Sigg just wanted to be there for his wife Katie, who went into labor on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Announcement<\/span><\/h2>\n

In a now-deleted tweet, the PGA Tour stated that Sigg would be stepping away from the event to focus on his growing family.\u00a0 Fans responded positively to the news, and with some excitement.\u00a0 Fans were congratulating the golfer, with one even saying:<\/span><\/p>\n

“That’s the best reason for a withdrawal.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, it was positive vibes being spread around.\u00a0 The post was eventually taken down to exclude the part about Sigg\u2019s wife giving birth.\u00a0 Most likely because that was considered too personal.\u00a0 The ethics of announcing that is dubious at best.\u00a0 At the time of writing, Greyson Sigg and Katie Sigg haven\u2019t made the public announcement themselves.\u00a0 They are currently a bit too busy to make such an announcement.\u00a0 Nevertheless, the PGA Tour making the announcement without their consent is a bit in poor taste and can be seen as inconsiderate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Will Replace Greyson Sigg<\/span><\/h2>\n

In the same announcement, the PGA revealed that Greyson Sigg will be replaced by Zac Blair for the Open<\/a>.\u00a0 Some fans were excited for Blair, with one saying that he is on his comeback.\u00a0 Most were pretty lukewarm on that part of the announcement.\u00a0 Most of the excitement is for the Siggs’ newborn baby, but this is still a great opportunity for Blair.\u00a0 He is also set to play in the US Open, so this can give him the preparation he needs to compete in the major next week.\u00a0 Being an alternate is not quite ideal, but it does open doorways for the golfers.\u00a0 Especially if they make a good impression.\u00a0 Like Danny Walker during the Player Championship<\/a>.\u00a0 Granted, he was a rookie, and Zac Blair has been playing for the PGA Tour since 2015, but there\u2019s always an opportunity to turn things around.<\/span><\/p>\n

Siggs Exciting Day<\/span><\/h2>\n

It is rare for a player to have to withdraw for something as good as this.\u00a0 It does happen from time to time, but most are due to less-than-ideal emergencies.\u00a0 Once again, the lead-up to the Canadian Open was full of withdrawals, specifically due to injuries that the players are recovering from.\u00a0 It\u2019s a breath of fresh air to learn that Siggs is leaving for something so positive and exciting in his life.\u00a0 To him, fans and players alike are wishing him good fortune and a hearty congratulations for being a father.\u00a0 His wife will also be relieved to see him by her side while going through labor.\u00a0 Now, fans are excited to see the little bundle of joy that the two are about to welcome into the world.<\/span><\/p>\n
