During the PGA Championship, as Scheffler was setting up his victory<\/a>, there was an unspecified number of players had their golf clubs inspected.\u00a0 The test was pretty standard and essentially told the players in question that it was time to replace their clubs.\u00a0 Rory McIlroy had his beloved TaylorMade driver go through this test<\/a> and found out it had to be replaced.\u00a0 It was all standard and routine, but golfer Lucas Glover noticed something that started grinding his gears.\u00a0 With the event being a major, golfers from other tours were present and playing, but only the PGA players went through that inspection.\u00a0 With that realization, Lucas Glover is calling for all players to get these inspections at events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lucas Glover Outspoken Critic<\/span><\/h2>\n

This is far from the first time Glover called for change to happen across the sport.\u00a0 He often calls the governing bodies specifically to make these changes.\u00a0 Glover has weighed in on the slow-play issue,<\/a> even laying out a plan to help quicken the pace of play.\u00a0 He is also a major critic of the Aim Point putting method.\u00a0 A method used to read slopes on the green that is criticised for slowing down the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glover On The Inspections<\/span><\/h2>\n

While on the PGA Tour Radio show<\/a>, Glover called out the disparity between the tours.\u00a0 His argument is essentially that the PGA players are held to a higher standard than, say, someone playing from the DP World Tour or players from LIV Golf.\u00a0 A player from any other league could easily bring in a noncompliant club, and everyone would be none the wiser.\u00a0 Whether or not it is in the player’s favor is another question entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glover\u2019s argument goes as this: \u201cWe should all be held under the same rules at all four events.\u201d\u00a0 Glover goes on to clarify.\u00a0 \u201cEverybody should be tested for equality, if we\u2019re going to have all of these tours and all of these people coming together.\u00a0 So let\u2019s test drivers, let\u2019s test lies on putters, let\u2019s drug test, let\u2019s test everything to make sure everybody is on the same page.\u00a0 If that costs X amount of dollars, great, let\u2019s do it!\u00a0 These organizations have got plenty, look at the tents they build every week.\u00a0 If we\u2019re going to be on an equal playing field, let\u2019s make sure we\u2019re under the same rules.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New Rules Needed?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Considering that it is only the PGA players who get these inspections, this should be applied across the whole event.\u00a0 The test that made headlines is an effective one that catches bad clubs before things go wrong.\u00a0 Yet, as Glover pointed out, only the PGA players go through it.\u00a0 The driver test in question only happens because it\u2019s the PGA that invites the testers in.\u00a0 That was confirmed by a PGA Tour Radio reporter.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking at other sporting events, like the Olympics, the whole event is flooded by tests to ensure everyone is on an even playing field.\u00a0 There are videos floating around of athletes going through a post-match interview and about to go into a drug test.\u00a0 It is just strange that the majors don\u2019t have universal tests between the visiting tours.\u00a0 Glover is right, it is time to correct that.<\/span><\/p>\n
