Matsuyama Seen Playing In A Downpour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This spring has been a very wet one for the PGA season.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/04\/09\/masters-tournament-practice-round-gets-rained-out\/\" target=\"_self\">practice rounds for the Masters were rained out<\/a>, and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson had rain constantly looming overhead, al<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/withdrawals-from-cj-cup-byron-nelson-now-numbers-12\/\" target=\"_self\">ong with all the dropouts.<\/a>\u00a0 Pro golfers tend to be relatively unfazed by this.\u00a0 Most events press on, rain or shine, and weather conditions just add another challenge to the game.\u00a0 However, when the players are advised to step off the field due to weather conditions, they take that seriously for their safety.\u00a0 Hideki Matsuyama saw the downpour ahead of the PGA Championship and did not care.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matsuyama Golfing In The Rain<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current weather in North Carolina is abysmal.\u00a0 Although it hasn\u2019t gotten to the point of lightning in the area, conditions are bad enough that safety is a concern for fans.\u00a0 Players are allowed to be on the field, but most decided to hold up inside.\u00a0 If it\u2019s enough to postpone a tournament, there\u2019s not much point in staying on the field.\u00a0 Yet there Matsuyama is, teeing off in the middle of a storm while other players would rather wait for the storm to die down at least a little.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fans Are Confused<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under normal circumstances, fans would admire Matsuyama for his dedication to the sport.\u00a0 For his determination to train, rain or shine.\u00a0 However, looking at the<a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/golf_com\/status\/1922000370210934884?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> footage posted on Twitter,<\/a> it is hard to see the putting green beneath the layer of water that is covering it.\u00a0 It would be hard to tell where the green was if it didn\u2019t act as a plate at the bottom of a kitchen sink.\u00a0 Fans have been seeing this and are confused as to why Matsuyama is persisting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI respect the grind, but this has gotta be the dumbest thing I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d wrote one fan seeing the deluge on the green.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cJust go and putt in your hotel room.\u201d\u00a0 Said another, thinking it would be more effective to just use a practice mat in these conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLove the guy, but this is beyond pointless.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another fan wrote lampshading the fact that games don\u2019t continue in these conditions.\u00a0 A tournament is put on hold long before conditions get to this point.\u00a0 The only thing a flooded green will prepare him for is playing in a swamp.\u00a0 A condition that all these well-maintained courses could never provide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other fans in the comments were worried that Matsuyama might catch a cold from playing in the rain.\u00a0 Considering that this is his practice for a major, it is the last thing he would want to happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hideki Matsuyama Persists<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matsuyama\u2019s dedication is something to admire.\u00a0 Facing the storm, he decided that it wasn\u2019t time to pack it in, but rather it was just an inconvenience at best.\u00a0 An inconvenience that is turning the course into a giant water hazard.\u00a0 Yet Matsuyama is just brushing it all off as he\u2019s nonchalantly playing in the rain.\u00a0 Hopefully, he doesn\u2019t get sick from this and only has to let his clothes and equipment dry as a
