Donald Trump will finally realize his dream of hosting a major golf event this summer, as his golf course in Scotland will host a DP World Tour event<\/a> for the first time ever. He has made no secret of his desire to host a high-profile golf tournament at one of his resorts, with the former President especially keen on hosting The Open at Turnberry.<\/a><\/p>\n

Trump International Golf Links To Host DP World Tour Event<\/h2>\n

Trump International Golf Links will be hosting the DP World Tour event this summer. Although Trump’s ultimate goal is to bring The Open back to Turnberry, he’ll have to settle for another high-profile event at another of his luxurious golf resorts in August.<\/p>\n

The Aberdeenshire layout hosted the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship last season<\/a>; however, this summer will be the first time that the golf course will host a regular DP World Tour event. Currently, the DP World Tour\u2019s website has an \u2018unnamed European event\u2019 listed on August 7. The date was previously set aside for the Czech Masters, which has now been cancelled.<\/p>\n

Reports say Wentworth HQ will announce a replacement event at Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen in due time. In addition, officials have earmarked a $3 million (\u00a32.25 million) prize purse for the event at the Trump-owned course. Organizers expect the event to attract the interest of fans all over the world. However, the event\u2019s date will clash with LIV Golf\u2019s stop in Chicago and the FedEx St. Jude Championship in<\/a> the PGA Tour\u2019s season-ending playoffs.<\/p>\n

Trump Delighted With DP World Tour But Still Keen On The Open<\/h2>\n

There are currently no indications that The Open will return to Turnberry, but Trump will be delighted to host a DP World Tour event at one of his golf resorts. Senior government officials have been in contact with the R&A to discuss the possibility of hosting the world\u2019s oldest golf major at Turnberry in 2028.<\/p>\n

However, the R&A has insisted so far that The Open will not return to Turnberry as long as the focus remains on the owner of the course instead of the tournament itself. New R&A chief executive Mark Darbon has also stated that they must sort out some commercial and logistical challenges before Turnberry can host The Open again.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s attention will now turn to hosting a successful DP World Tour event this summer. The event will likely boost the course’s finances after reports revealed that it recorded an 11th consecutive annual loss last October. The golf course, which opened in 2012, reported pre-tax figures revealing a \u00a31.4 million deficit for 2023.<\/p>\n
