For the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, golfer Davis Love III made his return after enduring open heart surgery.\u00a0 The surgery itself was a long time coming, with the first signs being detected as far back as ten years ago.\u00a0 Now he is back in action and ready to defend his titles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Love\u2019s Heart Issues<\/span><\/h2>\n

The problem Love needed addressed was a leaky heart valve<\/a>.\u00a0 This came as a surprise for Love, who said that he didn\u2019t feel anything wrong and would have likely missed it entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI had no symptoms, I never felt bad.\u00a0 I never had anything other than a little bit of high blood pressure.\u00a0 So I could have walked right into a tragedy, and they prevented that, so I feel very blessed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Love also recalled his heart specialist talking with him about his heart, and he was surprised that they were able to hear it through a stethoscope.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recovery<\/span><\/h2>\n

Love\u2019s recovery wasn\u2019t any more difficult than expected, unlike Gary Woodland\u2019s recovery<\/a>.\u00a0 The recovery period was fairly long, with just his ribs taking three months.\u00a0 He still didn\u2019t like it, being ordered to stay cooped up at home and not allowed to do much.\u00a0 Love has said that he\u2019s \u201cnot very patient at all.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

He was given twelve weeks for his ribs to heal, and was told that he could start putting again.\u00a0 Didn\u2019t stop him from going to the gym the day he got out of the hospital for a good walk, or from cleaning horse stalls.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

It was his daughter who suggested he start putting in early because he was cleaning those stalls, and that was far harder work than what he did on the green.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t cleared to do full swings until this last April because of his ribs.\u00a0 Love is the kind of person who doesn\u2019t like sitting down or resting too long.\u00a0 He was already itching to do something straight out of the hospital and carried that energy throughout his recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Love\u2019s Return<\/span><\/h2>\n

Now that he\u2019s all patched up, love plans on returning to the PGA Tour Champions.\u00a0 Although he has never won, he plans on breaking Mark Brooks\u2019 record of most starts at 803.\u00a0 Love is rearing to go and increase his current count of 790.\u00a0 He did have to miss quite a few chances for that in the past year because of this recovery time as well as a thumb surgery he had last April.\u00a0 Tiger Woods is going through something similar after his last injury<\/a>.\u00a0 On his return, Love says that he\u2019s just happy to be back with his fellow golfers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice to be back.\u00a0 I mainly came to see all my friends,\u201d Love said. \u201cBilly Andrade called me on my birthday.\u00a0 He goes, \u2018Man, I hope we see you soon and not just on facetime.\u2019\u00a0 It really hit me that I really haven\u2019t seen guys.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Davis Love can now look forward to seeing his buddies and competing for glory.\u00a0 With a now clean bill of health and a boring recovery, no one is more eager than he.\u00a0 Fans can look forward to seeing him bring all that built-up energy he couldn\u2019t get out fast enough during recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n
