{"id":434102,"date":"2025-04-30T00:11:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-30T00:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/?p=434102"},"modified":"2025-04-30T00:11:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T00:11:38","slug":"liv-golf-might-be-losing-its-top-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/liv-golf-might-be-losing-its-top-players\/","title":{"rendered":"Bryson DeChambeau: The Pin Holding LIV Together"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As covered multiple times, several LIV golfers have been rumored to be considering jumping ship back to the PGA Tour.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t until <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/14\/laurie-canter-jumps-from-liv-to-pga\/\" target=\"_self\">Laurie Canter made the jump<\/a> that a path was clear.\u00a0 Now, with there being a definite path to return to, PGA fans are wondering if LIV Golf will have a \u2018mass exodus\u2019 of all its star players.\u00a0 This also, in part, centers around Bryson DeChambeau.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIV Golf\u2019s History<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIV Golf is only a few years old.\u00a0 It only got its start in 2022 after the PIF brought it into existence.\u00a0 Since then, the leagues&#8217; connections with the government of Saudi Arabia have always made it divisive.\u00a0 It, however, has been very disruptive, granted.\u00a0 The PGA has been around for over a hundred years and has grown complacent with its standing on the world stage.\u00a0 Golfers from all around the world have gone to the PGA for their professional careers.\u00a0 Even players from the DP Tour have tried for and acquired their Tour cards.\u00a0 When LIV showed up on the scene, it shook PGA to its core for better and for worse.\u00a0 Rory McIlroy famously hates LIV Golf for numerous reasons, but he can\u2019t deny some of the good it forced the PGA to do for the players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhether you stayed on the PGA Tour or you left, we have all benefited from this. I\u2019ve been on the record saying this a lot: We\u2019re playing for a $20 million prize fund this week. That would have never happened if LIV hadn\u2019t come around.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeChambeau and More Rumors<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIV Golf got a lot of ire from the PGA because they tended to snipe players using lucrative multi-year contracts.\u00a0 Players like Bryson DeChambeau got contracts worth over $100 million.\u00a0 Dustin Johnson is so confident in his contracts that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/02\/11\/speculation-arises-after-dustin-johnson-and-taylormade-split\/\" target=\"_self\">he let some sponsorships expire<\/a>.\u00a0 Yet it seems that players aren\u2019t entirely satisfied.\u00a0 This season has been plagued with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/08\/bryson-dechambeau-liv-golf\/\" target=\"_self\">rumors of players leaving, like with the aforementioned DeChambeau<\/a>.\u00a0 It is still unknown how much of it is true, but recently, LIV golf has been showing some cracks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent episode of the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9GVBv98HQoo\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MrShort Game Golf Podcast<\/a> revealed that Bryson DeChambeau didn\u2019t know that he didn\u2019t own his own name under contract and found out that LIV owned his personal YouTube channel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe reason he\u2019s not participating in the dules is because he\u2019s having a conflict with LIV Golf right now about this.\u00a0 Bryson DeChambeau does not own his YouTube channel.\u00a0 That is owned by LIV Golf\u2026All LIV players are under contract with LIV, and it\u2019s an NIL.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The show&#8217;s host, Matt Fisher, goes on to say that he has heard that the Saudi government is not happy with all the money LIV has been using since its inception, with so little return on investment. With DeChambeau\u2019s contract at the center of these rumors, the host speculates that once the LIV Golf players\u2019 initial contracts are up, there will be an exodus, starting with Bryson DeChambeau.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m hearing that there is going to be an exodus from LIV back to the PGA Tour. That could very well happen. This is all happening quickly.
